  • 15 Stocks Trading Near Highs Undervalued By The Graham Number [View article]
I owned SRE for a long time, then sold it a few years ago. Kept the reinvested dividends, though, so I've seen some nice price appreciation on that. Wish I'd kept it all.

    LOL.

Anybody named Michael Moore is indeed a poor choice. He would probably eat all the profits.

    LOL.

donk won't answer. He's a financial forum gadfly who makes a lot of talk but not much sense. He is probably off pestering people on another forum.

Ignoring is the best future strategy. Then he'll go away faster.

    Thanks, David.

I too noticed that about the financial data. And it's thinly traded, too. Would probably just be owned for the income.

    David,

What's your opinion of NIDB, the holding company for First Federal of Huntington, IN?

It looks like a stable bank with nice earnings and yield, showing modest dividend increases yearly, even in the 2008 time frame. It's hard to find much in the way of analysts reports on it.

    worth....

I kind of have a rule of thumb, that I screen out anything higher than 75% of it's yearly high. After that, then I try to find out why the stock is down from that mark, whether it's a general market dip (easy), some fundamental problem with the company, etc.

    donk,

While a landlord, I spent a lot of time at trade associations, seminars, forums and just generally associating with other investment property owners. Today, I oversee an upper-middle class community in which approximately 20% of the properties are investor owned.

I have never known one investor who has not had at least a couple of the problems I outlined. You are the first. Where are all these properties you own-Utopia?

  • Homebuilder Stocks Set To Recover: Now Is The Time To Buy [View article]
Well, nobody's going to come out and ring a bell at the bottom, so even if this sector erodes more, it's still a throw-a-dart cinch that investors buying today will be rewarded in the long run.

    RS,

Bet you're feeling pretty frisky right about now, considering that Uncle Ben held out zero rates through 2014, with the resultant spike in the NLY share price!

  • Top Chemical Stock Picks From UBS [View article]
Take a look at CBT, a small to mid cap diversified chemical company. Sales of some of it's commodity products are cyclical and raw material cost dependent, but the company manages to make a tidy profit and is the worldwide leader in their primary industry-carbon black.

Pays a 2+% dividend, payout ratio of 20%. Good potential candidate for capital gains, as it's well off it's yearly high.

Hmmm. Familiar story. Have-not countries want somebody else to pick up the tab for their own foolish fiscal policies. Basically, income redistribution.

Analogous to what's happening here in the U.S.?

    James,

Congratulations on another fascinating series of articles. Your success is evident by the huge number of comments on each one.

You always provide novel takes on very complex subjects. I don't always agree, but I certainly enjoy reading and participating in the give and take that follows.

    muoio,

Think for ourselves? What a novel concept!

However, some of our current leaders would prefer that we do not, as they already know what's best for us.

    Authors can't win.

If they don't own the stocks they discuss, they're ostracized for having "no skin in the game."

If they do, they're taken to task for "pumping."

Suggest we all just judge the articles by their content, not speculate on authors' motives for submitting them.

In this case, I think the author presents a rather scantily researched article, but he does at least devote the first paragraph to disclaiming what's to follow.

  • The Best Mortgage REITs To Buy Now [View article]
Nice article. Always interested in the mREITs. I think NLY is the buy right now. AGNC is too close to it's yearly high. I know, I know, the huge divvy will more than compensate for any dip in the stock price. Just not comfortable buying at the top.
