  • My Strategy For International Diversification [View article]
Maybe I missed it, but VEA also pays a 4.65% dividend. On the other hand, Vanguard lists it as a 5 on their Risk/Reward curve, meaning it's most volatile.

I have a hypothetical allocation among 4 Vanguard ETFs for my entire portfolio.

    VYM 30%
    VEA 30%
    VCIT 20%
    BND 20%

This gives me a 60/40 equity/bond mix, and a pretty balanced one, yield in the 3-4% range.

    Your thoughts?

  • The High-Yield BDC Portfolio: Q3 2013 [View article]
    BDC,

Thanks, again, for your series of timely articles. Also the newsletter.

Little confused about something......you stated in the next to last paragraph that 'for high yield oriented investors, I believe that this is a solid portfolio with a dividend yield of over 12%......' Do you mean PSEC, TICC, MCC and FSC? That was the way I read it.

    Thanks.

RS's "advice" is for the novice investors. He relentlessly pumps NLY, then runs an article yelling SELL. He's done this several times over the last year.

Follow him, and the real gainers are the brokers' commissions.

The more you analyze PSEC, the more I like it. Thanks for your great articles. I like it that you give a 'fair and balanced' appraisal based on cold, hard criteria. Great also that you specialize in one sector, your area of expertise.

Have limit orders in for both PSEC & MAIN.

    Thanks,

It would be, but don't count on it, although Morningstar plugs a fair value estimate of $35. on it.

SO might be the utility to buy nowadays. Below fair value and paying a 4.85% dividend. Favorable regulatory climate, too. Only potential cloud could be problems and delays cropping up with their nuke plant under construction.

To my bleary eyes, your charts list the Vanguard ETF as VYN. You do mean VYM?

    Adam,

I think that in regard to O, I come down somewhere between you and Brad. I am cautiously positive.

I just bought a small position @ 39 and have limit orders at lower increments, which I think would give me a decent cost basis. . If it goes up, wont buy more, just sit there enjoying the monthly dividends and paper gain.

  • What 'Intrinsic Value' Might Warren Buffett Assign To Linn Energy Common Units? [View article]
Buffett would probably remind everyone that he doesn't buy businesses he doesn't understand. Since nobody REALLY understands the likes of LINE, VNR, and others of that upstream ilk, I'm pretty sure that Buffett would not be an investor.

Got stopped out of DX, but may buy it again. One of the better, albeit unheralded, mREITs out there, IMO.

As a DGI, UPS is the one to own, although their payout ratio is upside down for the last couple of years. FCF covers it comfortably for the time being, however.
