  • My Retirement Income Quarterly Review - The Final Wrap Up [View article]
I think you are correct, martinfrosa. TCAP's payout ratio is 91% (SA), which is about where it should be. Add to that nice dividend increases since '07. Only problem now is that eps is near it's 52 wk high. An entry point for me would be around 22.

They are officially known as a Small Business Investment Company (SBIC).

    Thanks,

    barley,

"From a UK perspective", you have to understand that to Obama, "co-operate" means "do it my way". He's more interested in taxing and spending for his legacy than in the long term financial health of the country.

He is unwilling to give any ground at all and meet the Republicans in the middle.

Seems that, "from a UK perspective", there's plenty to comment negatively about on your continent before reaching across the Pond. Get your own house in order first.

Thanks for the article. You caused me to kick myself a few extra times for not buying SFL when it was in single digits and paying 9%.

    Ouch! Ouch!

  • The Dividend Achievers Of 2012 [View article]
    chow,
Wish I'd sold HCBK prior to the drop.

Instead, I had confidence that things would be righted and rode HCBK down, buying more as it dropped. Got disgusted and sold shortly after the buyout announcement bounce, losing about a buck a share. Should have waited a while, because it went up a little and I could have gotten out whole.

You might say that I did just about everything wrong on this one, even though I should have known better. I don't mind humility lessons, just not the expensive kind. :-(

A great resource for paper trading is TD's Think or Swim. They give you a "virtual" $100K to play with also.

    Shades of grey......

Is this a not-so-subtle way of saying no straight answers?

Guess I'd have to agree with that assessment.

  • National Bankshares, Inc.: An Undervalued Dividend Growth Gem In Regional Banking [View article]
Timely article on a nice little bank.

I did a little superficial DD and like the payout ratio, also the fact that they raised dividends during the Great Recession. Steadily rising EPS is impressive too.

Any of the national banks sniffing around them?

    Thanks for the article.

  • Pitney Bowes: A Sustainable 13.4% Yield? [View article]
Interesting strategy that I hadn't thought of. Once got burned when I put a limit-sell order in when I thought I was putting in a stop-loss. Makes sense to do this to hose the shorters( although my miniscule share trades wouldn't affect them one way or the other).

I thought this was a very informative macro dissertation on strategic portfolio management.

Anyone who follows Roger knows that he writes these types of thoughtful articles. For those wanting breathless buy/sell recommendations on specific stocks, this is the wrong place to be.

They're saying that the demand in Wisconsin will be less in the future, particularly infrastructure. To me infrastructure means business and public projects, which of course affects business.

I'd be interested in which brokerage(s) you are with which you would consider to be potential candidates for some sort of catastrophic failure.

I'm with Vanguard @ $7/trade (phone or on line) and don't envision them going out of business any time soon.

Morningstar gives WEC high marks for environmental compliance and fairly values the stock at $40. pps.

They do, however, think the infrastructure requirements for electricity are going to shrink going forward.

They are regulated, which stifles competition.

To me the company look very well managed and is probably a very good buy for an income investor at or below $35.

    Negative Cash Flow
    EPS Not Covering Dividend
Connection with Fortress, a shaky entity itself.
Anything Connected With The Airline Industry.

Other than that, a great stock.
