  • Realty Income: One Heck Of An Ark That's Prepared For The Storms Ahead [View article]
Long O at ~38. Very hesitant about adding any more above that price.

I remember when the cheerleaders were shaking their pom-poms when it was over 50.

    Hoop

Fidelity, too. In fact, the consensus among most is negative on eREITs.

  • BDC Rankings: March 2014 [View article]
    Buzz,

Data is from Morningstar Key Ratios:

    TTM
    Earnings .91 Dividend 1.09

    2013
    Earnings .90 Dividend 1.15

    Schwab shows similar numbers.

Will go check the company's reported figures.

  • Low-Beta / High-Yield Stocks Can Provide Protection During A Market Correction [View article]
I question some of the beta numbers, particularly on SO and ED.

Note that these figures are from Yahoo. Other sources do not agree.

  • Canada Supreme Court to hear Chevron in Ecuador lawsuit [View news story]
    I don't understand.

Why would a Canadian court have jurisdiction over litigation between a US domiciled corporation and a banana republic in South America?

Wouldn't that be the same as a US court hearing a case between RDS and some country in Africa?

    Somebody enlighten me?

Valentum writes very good articles, but doesn't participate in the followup discussion thread. Detracts from the overall experience.

  • MORL Yielding 21.8% After April Dividend Incease [View article]
I don't think we have to worry about interest rates rising precipitously, if at all in the foreseeable future.

Yellen got spooked Mr. Market's reaction to her Fed report, and will tread very lightly going forward, as evidenced by her remarks a couple of days ago.

Welcome deep stuff amid all the clatter and chatter. Disturbing, too, especially at 0800 hrs.

Too much and too many moving parts for my pitiful old brain to absorb.

Complicated stuff like this reminds me of the-up-to-2007 schemes and I do remember how that turned out.

  • How To Get $10,000 Each Year From A $250,000 Nest Egg [View article]
Not sure I get your comment, but if you are properly balanced in the first place with as close as possible to an "all weather" portfolio, you won't be overallocated. Balanced mutual funds are a fair example.

You sacrifice capital gains maybe when the market's going crazy, but also are more protected on the downside.

The big benefit to constant rebalancing is to the brokers.

  • 2 High-Yield Real Estate Plays [View article]
EPR is getting a lot of ink in the eREIT sector lately. I believe Brad Thomas wrote about it the other day also.

I stumbled on it a few months ago, and it's business model is very interesting, but definitely for the discretionary income crowd. As such, it's very vulnerable to economic conditions. I think it's overpriced right now and would wait for at least a couple of point dip to buy in.

Bottom line, these "GEN III" vehicles will be powered by electricity generated at good old fashioned fossil fuel plants, at least in our lifetimes and probably several other generations as well.

Nuclear is dirty word to progressives. Solar, at least on any scale, creates vast wastelands of landscape. Windmills are harmful to protected wildlife. Hydro is feasible, but not on the scale to support the utopian lifestyle (what, for example do you think the computer you typed your comment runs on?).

Tesla is a prototype of the future...the distant future, at least in measurable human terms.

  • AT&T adds 300M shares to buyback authorization [View news story]
T seems a bit bondlike. Not a bad thing altogether. Going ex-dividend soon, for shareholders as of 4/10. Buy in to get the dividend, or wait for the announcement dip?

  • N.Y. judge lets Chevron bring fraud claims against Patton Boggs [View news story]
CVX has the resources to drag this out and really hurt Patton Boggs financially, which is what I hope they do. Might send a signal to the other trial law firms out there.
