    Hedging, smedging.

How about earnings from operations? A unique concept at LINE. They've lost money 8 out of the last 11 years.

Buying LINE isn't investing, it's speculating, because the both the business model and dividend are unsustainable.

    All this analysis is irrelevant.

  • Fertilizing My Dividend Portfolio With Potash Corp. [View article]
I don't like the fact that the Canadian govt. withholds 15% tax on dividends and that's AFTER you fill out some bureaucratic form. If you don't, then it's 25%.

Somebody said that if the stock is bought in an IRA account, there is no withholding at all, but I can't verify that. Anyone?

  • Shell says it will move drill rigs to Seattle despite protests [View news story]
The Left Coast protesters in typical mindless action.

Then they'll all climb into their $100K Teslas, drive to their multi million $ solar homes overlooking the sea, have a couple of lattes, worship at the shrine of Bill and Melinda and feel good about themselves.

  • Is Annaly Capital's Management The Solution Or The Problem? [View article]
Signs of desperation usually result in chippy attitude, disingenuousness (a word?), heightened sensitivity and defensiveness.

I would imagine this CEO may be feeling the hot breath of dismissal on the back of her neck. Unless she has the officers and board tightly controlled, this could and should happen sooner rather than later.

I'm interested in the silence from those NLY enthusiasts who used to blame NLY underperformance on the "shorts", Barron's and other sinister motives. Not much except the crickets now.

  • Ensco - April Update [View article]
Too many articles on these offshore drillers, all presenting the same data, graphics and pictures jacked from annual reports, company presentations, etc.

    Enough already.

Bottom line...they will rebound when oil does. You can see it happening already as crude is inching up.

Long KMI at $31.75, and my yield on c.b. is 6% (after 4 dividend increases in a year), so think I'll keep it for a while.

I avoided the MLP (KMP), even though it yielded more and was tax advantaged to a degree. Considering what happened, glad I did.

It's great that DX is aligned with shareholders, now all they have to do is to report better financial results.

Long DX, but dividends aren't keeping up with the capital losses.

  • Why Noble Corporation Stock Is A Buy Right Now [View article]
Well, if you did, sorry, but I can't find it. What I found was:

"Noble is paying a very generous dividend. The forward annual yield is very high at 8.77%. The annual rate of dividend growth over the past three years was very high at 35.7%, and over the past five years was also very high at 52.8&"

I don't think that an out of the air reference to "forward annual yield..." is commenting on the safety, neither is talking about dividend growth in the past.

In your last paragraph, you also talk about patient investors enjoying the dividend while waiting for the share price to rebound.

I didn't see any definitive statements that you consider the forward dividend to be safe, much less providing any reasoning why. You'll understand that this is pretty relevant information, considering what's happened to other dividend yields in the offshore sector.

If I missed something, apologies in advance.

Happy to see your elevation to "Editors Picks". About time, damnit! Gratifying that greatness has finally been recognized in it's own time.

Love the PC euphemisms for mental illness these days, so that we don't hurt anyone's feelings. Manic/depressive is now Bi-Polar. I get it. Schizophrenia is now Associative Identity Disorder. Ok. And so on. I'm waiting for a polite name for curmudgeon, which is me.

    Thanks.

Good article. I'm long NE, but not as much as I should have been at these prices. Will add on any dips.

Either I missed something, or did you comment on the safety of the dividend? I think this is important, going forward, because while a cut would be understandable, a slash a la ESV intolerable.
