  • American Capital Agency: Here Is Why I Am Not Going To Be A Buyer Any Time Soon  [View article]
Wasn't so long ago that CEO Kain (is that his name?) was considered one of the geniuses in the mREIT universe. The mighty have fallen indeed.

  • Expect more dividend cuts among offshore drillers, J.P. Morgan predicts  [View news story]
Sold ESV today. My cb was too high to recover anytime soon. I'll console myself with a "tax loss harvest."

Keeping NE. CB is ~$17, so not so far to claw back up when oil prices improve.

  • Invest in a more conservative crop of MLPs, Stifel suggests  [View news story]
One big problem with AMLP. Taxes affect the NAV. Lifted almost verbatim from Morningstar, which explains it much better than I ever could:

"AMLP is a corporation, not an investment company, so it has to pay corporate income taxes."

"AMLP accounts for (MLP) deferred tax liabilities in its NAV, which takes a bite out of the fund's total annual return."

"Because of it's corporate taxation, the fund lagged it's benchmark by 3.25% from inception through 9/30/15."

My opinion: However, for the investor whose primary focus is income, the above may not matter so much and the convenience of one timely 1099 versus multiple straggling K-1s may tilt the scales further.

Physical real estate.....a smart move or a desperate one? Aren't they getting out of their area of "expertise"?

In any event, probably smart for them to dip their toes in those waters gingerly at first, to test the temperature. Some pretty big eREIT sharks swimming in there also.

  • My Top 10 Monthly Dividend Stocks: Updated  [View article]
Very complete and interesting article. Thanks.

Wondering about the PFF recommendation. While monthly payouts are nice and the majority of their holdings seem to be investment grade , most are trading above issue price. I would think that this would make this ETF kind of volatile (even though beta is .89 -- I don't believe Blackrocks' .17--they've jiggered it somehow).

    Why Chuck C.?

BDC Buzz would be the one to ask. Besides, he'd answer back in about 10,000 words less than Chuck.

  • Kinder Morgan: Undervalued Or Value Trap?  [View article]
Stock's been clawing it's way back up for several days. Big volume, too. Somebody know something, or just extended dead cat bounces?

I'm with the author. Glad to see the dividend cut...even happier to see KMI's newly found financial discipline. They need to keep Rich away from the press, however. He's becoming a loose cannon and irrelevant.

    jack20,

    "They deserve better".

Baloney. They deserve just what they voted in-a left winger named Trudeau, apparently as anti-business as his old man. Even Alberta went for a pack of libs and tree huggers in the last election.

Guess the Canadians got tired of all that prosperity.

    Huh?

You need to expand on your two comments. I have no idea what you're talking about. Not sure anyone does.

You're thinking of MLPs. NOthing wrong with holding BDC's in a taxable account.

Where do you get your info, Yahoo?
