KMP & EPD are good companies, but, old news. Great investments.......2 years ago.

Cramer seems to always jump on the bandwagon after stocks have already had big run-ups, claiming that there's a lot more to be had.

  • Beware Long-Term Damage From Stock Market Bubble Forming Now [View article]
Being relatively unsophisticated, I look and cycles and sentiment. A correction will come, and I think it's coming sooner rather than later. I also watch the Lemming Factor. When retail investors start piling in, then I'm pretty sure that the end is near. Finally, overall sentiment. It's pretty strongly bullish, another bearish sign.

Having said that, I'll hold and add when/if the correction arrives. Hope somebody rings a bell to let me know beforehand!

  • Replace American Capital After Dismal Earnings? What I'm Doing With The Stock Now [View article]
I hold DX, which is a hybrid. Yield is about 11%. It's well managed, profitable and with none of the recent drama, except for some sympathy selling.

I also own AGNC & plan on hanging in.

  • The Big Temptation For Dividend Investors Right Now [View article]
    Chowder,

At first glance, your cherry picked numbers are impressive, if one considers......
    1982--6.27%
    1987--5.25%
    2011--2.11%
to be "bull markets". They looked more like pauses and consolidations to me.

Indeed, from '82-84 you could have as much as doubled (or at least equaled) those gains with money markets and cds with a lot less effort. Ditto '87.

    2011--2.11% That's a bull market?

Where are the several years in the early 90's? Seems like you forgot those.

And, why didn't you include the 70's while you were at it, which goes back to the start of my investing time frame? They weren't too stellar, to say the least.

Numbers are a wonderful thing--you can use them to prove any point you wish to make. There are a few flaws and omissions in yours.

We're in the 5th year of a bull market, (if one considers '11 as bullish). The run up is at least partially based on low inflation, printing presses, govt. bond buying, and zero interest rates. It's getting mature and due for a correction, sooner rather than later, IMHO.

  • Monopoly For Investors: Utilities [View article]
NWN at first glance looks pretty good, but a little research reveals otherwise.

Since they're exclusively natural gas, what's their outlook pricewise, and are they a takeover candidate? What's the regulatory climate like in these Left Coast blue states?

Could you also comment on their lower EPS figures in '12? Also their negative 3 yr. net income growth of -7.3% as opposed to the industry average of +24.8% for the same period?

    Thanks.

Your statement that an auto company is not cyclical will no doubt come as a surprise to just about everyone in the investment community.

  • An Interesting Alternative To Boring International Dividend ETFs [View article]
If every author included all of your recommend information, articles would be 15 pages long. And boring. C'mon.......articles are usually pretty specific to a few aspects of an equity or class of them.

Try writing an article....you'll see how hard it is.

  • Aviv REIT: Attractive Roll-up Opportunity In The Healthcare REIT Sector [View article]
Maybe management is "guiding" for an initial quarterly dividend, but they haven't paid one yet, and their website gives no indication that one is imminent, as far as I can see.

There is no dividend history whatsoever for this company.

What dividend? Where? Unless they have just declared the first one, I can't find any source showing a dividend paid at all, much less a yield.

Is there an AVIV preferred out there perhaps paying a dividend?

Sources: Morningstar, Fidelity, Yahoo! Finance, AVIV's own website.

  • Exelon: The President's Utility Continues Its Record Of Futility [View article]
    Saibus,

Why don't you quit being so wishy-washy and tell us how you REALLY feel about EXC?

Based on decades of sub-par performance and shareholder disregard, it would be prudent to be very cautious of most anything EXC says or does.

  • For Exelon, A 20% Rally Is Just The Beginning... [View article]
I have to admit that I was very skeptical of EXC's prospects pre and post dividend announcement. The 22% rise in the stock since has proven me wrong, for now anyway. Management may just be making some right moves, at long last. Would still like it better if they got more exposure in the regulated business, but their nuke capability will stand them in good stead as oil energy prices continue to rise (gas will too, when conversion accelerates) and the current administration continues to squeeze the coal industry.

  • Don't Get Suckered By This Popular High-Yield Investment [View article]
    @claude.....

While I think that there remains a hard core of a couple of dozen or so objective authors on SA (Tweed, Van Knapp, Crosetti, Goren, White, Carnavale, to name a few) I agree that there are too many unqualified authors, not to mention those who shamelessly pump or slam stocks, depending on their agenda.

Others' bios just happen to mention that oh, by the way, they have a newsletter to peddle. Some are doing it for the income, which can be substantial, depending on the number of followers.

Many, students, with fewer followers than I have, are authoring now, with slipshod research and data lifted verbatim from other sources.

To say that SA has lowered the bar on authorship is probably an understatement. The site has swollen and is definitely not as useful than it was a few years ago when I became involved. Bigger is not necessarily better. Heck, I'm even thinking of writing an article!

  • 4 Solid-Yielding Dividend Stocks With A Very Low PEG Ratio That Are In Uptrend [View article]
    Arie,

    Another timely article.

I love SAFT, but I keep missing it on the upside. Maybe, if earnings are lower, it'll adjust the pps down a little.

KCAP's not too shabby, either. Data all looks good.

    Thanks again.
