    RS,

Yup, great link. The Wise Guys will get in early and bail early, taking big profits with them. That will leave the chumps, the Greater Fools, to continue to bid the stock up until it dumps on them.

I'm reading a lot of the exponents of the latest Big Things talking about how "it's different this time". That sound familiar to you?

  • 9 Reasons Why Dividends Always Matter, 11 Stocks That Prove It [View article]
    Travel4

Take a look at MSEX, the local water utility for eastern NJ D4L mentions. The stock bounces around a narrow range and is thinly traded. The dividend is nearly 4%, and it's increased them since the 90's. Also, it's got an S&P A- rating; not too shabby. It should provide price stability with a nice dividend.

Could be one to set and forget.

  • Barron's Raises Interesting Questions On Portfolio Allocation [View article]
I haven't subscribed to Barron's for years, and the only reason I did was because they had the most complete listing of stocks anywhere. Obviously, I'm dating myself because this was before the internet and resultant information age.

I found their articles and recommendations to be the flavor of the month, already overbought and stale.

I did like Abelson's column though.

WSJ, Monday, Jan. 30, pg. B9. "Rough Water for Transocean". Pretty much defines all RIG's problems.

    Bret,

I wouldn't call the judgment a big win for RIG, more like a big draw. They still face liability, not the least of which are potential civil and punitive penalties from the U.S. government.

And, I think there are still management and business model issues for them to confront before they're pronounced alive and well.

They do, however, have an impressive amount of cash flow. They may need it for legal Round Two.

  • 15 Stocks Trading Near Highs Undervalued By The Graham Number [View article]
I owned SRE for a long time, then sold it a few years ago. Kept the reinvested dividends, though, so I've seen some nice price appreciation on that. Wish I'd kept it all.

    LOL.

donk won't answer. He's a financial forum gadfly who makes a lot of talk but not much sense. He is probably off pestering people on another forum.

Ignoring is the best future strategy. Then he'll go away faster.

  • Washington REIT: Differentiated By Decades Of Durable Dividends [View article]
    Brad,

Thanks for a very well researched article with timely information.

As the government keeps growing, the office/real estate market in D.C. will be in a favorable supply/demand mode for WRE. This REIT appears to be an excellent investment for the long term.

  • Homebuilder Stocks Set To Recover: Now Is The Time To Buy [View article]
Considering that we are in a housing bottom for both new construction and resales, what better time for an investor with a longer time frame to buy shares of home builders? This cycle will run it's course, as all do.

KBH is interesting to me, primarily because of it's business model and decent dividend which has never been cut. However, the sustainability of that is in question, because of negative earnings and poor free cash flow.

I think a patient investor could throw a dart at any of these three and come out a winner in the long run.

  • 2012 Europe Outlook: How The Fiasco Will Unfold, Part 2 [View article]
Europe is still Europe. Squabbling has continued for centuries, broken up by occasional revolutions and horrific wars.

The "Union" is a sham. There is no union or unity. When push comes to shove, each country will pursue it's own national interests.

The EU will fail, undoubtedly drag the Euro with it, and good riddance!

I'm glad you added the addendum about Sav-A-Lot, because I agree that it is SVU's salvation. They recently announced an expansion of those stores, which is long overdue, in my opinion.

    Everyone's right here.

It all goes to investing style and comfort level. There's nothing wrong with taking profits (at least for us dirty capitalists). Buying quality and holding has always been an overall winning strategy for the long run as well.
