Long INTC at $19 and change. It has been and will be a reliable stock and dividend contributor for my investing time frame, although I think they will be fine for the long run as well.

To mangle Twain, the reports of their death have been greatly exaggerated (for quite some time).

  • Kinder Morgan Continues Down Unsustainable Path [View article]
Your article is certainly food for thought, but I'm going to disagree without being disagreeable.

You mention debt; D/E at 1.2 is actually below the industry average of 1.4. SE, another C corp. with pipeline assets is at 1.7.

Rich Kinder knows what he's doing, and is considered a visionary in this business and will grow the company. without being reckless. Rationally aggressive would be a better way of putting it. As long as he's at the helm I'm pretty secure in being long this stock.

    rip,

This boom has happened in spite of admn. not because of it. They've done their level best to squelch it.....onerous state fracking legislation cheered on by the WH, export restrictions, EPA (enough said), etc.

A comment like that is in the eye of the beholder. It's "politicized" if one doesn't agree with it.

Well, the article headline was spot on......whole sector tanked yesterday. NE even today..not even a dead cat bounce. Buying opportunity, but patience required.

Nice increase. Not as effusive as some, but very well satisfied with this KMI investment so far. Especially glad I didn't hold KMP.

    Hilger 1,

I know, just know, that your comment about SA hacking your computer is tongue-in-cheek, right? Because, out of thousands of readers or so, SA would have no time to zone in on just your comments, right? Nobody would make that kind of accusation, right?

    aveguy,

Well, what you say is true. Unless you're going to get into some high yield funds and their attendant risk, stocks are a better bet for dividends. You can buy some pretty solid companies paying 4+%.

    Johan,

Great strategy. I agree completely. One hedges against the other, no matter what the economic conditions; interest rates, etc. are. I think these might be the only funds an investor would need.

I think the pipeline companies trade in sympathy with the energy sector. Most are down along with the oils.

    "..........Once In A Decade Opportunity"

    Not exactly.

CVX was ~ $67 in 2010. That would make yield on cost 6.4%. Lucky enough to have bought then.

    Maybe a half decade opportunity?

  • Prospect Capital: How Low Can It Go? [View article]
This author has done some sloppy research in the past as well.

He/she wrote an article a week or so ago recommending a certain preferred issue of O, Realty Income. Turns out it's trading $.90 over par with a call date in early '17. Kind of typical for this author.

The only source for BDCs, as far as I'm concerned, is BDC Buzz. He's long on factual numbers, short on speculation. He's penning a series of reports on PSEC, which the fans won't like much, either.

BTW, short interest on PSEC is currently 6.1%, which isn't that awfully high.

  • Cabot Corp: Opportunity Starting To Open Up [View article]
    Hi Brian,

Well, the only time I owned CBT was in my 401k. Guess I knew too much about the company!

Hard to say when to buy it. With cars selling (lots of carbon black rubber and plastics applications in cars) and feedstock prices low, the stock shouldn't be near a 52 week trough. Maybe the majors; Goodyear, Michelin, Bridgestone, etc. are beating them up on price.

Too, summer is model year changeover time, so business may be off. I see where TTM earnings are lower than all of '14.

30 years or so ago, the stock went over $100, but that was on takeover speculation. Cabot then formulated a poison pill, and did a 3-1 split.
