    @ Michael -
    I guess the million dollar question, wait - make that the billion dollar question - where does the margin train stop after the "give aways"?

  • Which Is Best: DRIP Or Collect And Invest? [View article]
    I am a DRIP just because I like the $ cost averaging and the ability to immediately reinvest and acquire your shares for free. Where else can you get small lots for free?

    IMHO - the key to successful DRIP investment is continual policing of your divvy portfolio. Would you buy your stock again today? If not - sell it or collect the divvy if your tax situation dictates. Never let up with tailoring your portfolio - but let it drip.

    To be fair Cube Monkey - unfortunately most stocks will jump with the announcement of layoffs. As much as I worry about my $INTC - I will give this behemoth some credit. They could have responded with a diminishing EPS by trying to cut their way to maintain the EPS. Instead they invested in RD and Capital and are trying to grow their way out of it. Much better approach IMHO. Surprisingly, the normal Big Co Mentality is to immediately start the whack machine.

    In defense of the author and all SA contributors, they are a damned if they do and damned if they don't situation. If they take the position they get slammed for writing an article only to help their stock. If they don't take a position they get slammed for not having skin in the game. So I feel for them somewhat.

    Now I think his position is harsh and I don't agree with it per se. I mean if INTC goes down 20% it will have a shytload of company.

    Seems pretty harsh - looking at some rough math - you are talking getting close to a 10.5 multiple for a flat 2014? Many geeky wonky types think the products will drive growth. I am unsure that this is true - but before I would short I would make sure I understand how each one of their portfolio products was going to impact 2015. The reality is that a mid single digit growth in 2015 puts this stock at a minimum of $32

    I know one thing - it certainly does help to be able to print money, that Greece thing was inescapable when they couldn't hit the printing press.

    I would suggest you look at Bret's profile. Very accomplished on the financial side of things, he could care less about the political side of this thing.

  • 3 Critical Questions For 2014 [View article]
    Hi Bret -
    Love your stuff in general and this in particular. As a quick question, I do not get your point on the Supreme Court overrule. I personally see no chance to over turn this beast until the earliest 2016 with the only solution through a legislative fix. Even this is unlikely with Hillary on the horizon.

  • Intel - Analysts Are Confused [View article]
    @Blue -
    I do find it difficult when analysts rave about how great the products are then turn around and freak out about a flat 2014. If you have conviction on the products - stay long on $INTC and if your time frame is tighter than 1 year - I would just avoid the stock and go somewhere else.

    But the reality is they have not grown since 2011, that will be 3 years of no growth, and until they post a real growth to offset the PC decline they will suffer in this purgatory. The good news is that with a mid single digit growth number the valuation jumps over the $30 range.
