  • Should Investors Continue Betting On Duke Energy Near Its 52-Week High?  [View article]
    I like DUK. After working in the acquisition and integration business for too many years - I have observed it takes approximately 18 months to really fuse your businesses together and then you can really start improving the financials rapidly. They are right in the window where their integration issues should start getting smaller and smaller and their synergy savings should start getting larger and larger. I have been patiently waiting and I buy dips below $68 but I have not been able to get in there for awhile.

    I think I will ride this bull a tad longer. I mean we are coming off of a -3% GDP number and the jobs data is not too bad. I do think there was some impact from the brutal weather and think things should be ok through the ROY

  • AT&T: A Junk Bond In Equity Clothing  [View article]
    Enjoyed the piece - but you went over the top ( I assume by design) on T. You seem like you are buying a growth story of prox $.10 on EPS and with a 12 multiple that gives you an $1.20 appreciation ~ 4% + a 5% divvy - so that is a junk bond?

    @buyandhold -
    I think you have a very healthy attitude toward life and finances. However, I have to plead guilty. I have enough money to retire fairly comfortably and continue to work just to ensure the grandkids can get through college. The kicker, my kids are doing great and I am sure that they will take care of their educational needs. But for some, stupid reason, I just want to personally ensure their education through 529 accounts for them.

  • 'Overdue' Dividend Increases: Which Streaks Might End  [View article]
    I think INTC is more than willing to let that streak end. Brian K is perfectly content to keep the money and use it for his product road mad and new products. He knows that if he grows the top line no one will complain - because his INTC shareholders will be enjoying the appreciation. Look what happened to the stock with a $700 million kick which likely doesn't get them back to 2012 sales levels. If he gets real growth, sustained for a couple of years - he knows he will be even richer. Long INTC and could not care less about divvy if growth.

    Wow LLY would be a huge gulp. I am Thankful for LLY - but I do think they need to get back in the divvy increase game. They used to be a divvy champion and I have owned since 2009 and not seen a penny increase. Anyway - total return has been great and do not want to appear selfish - but they used to be a divvy champion - if you have the money stop being a divvy chump LLY

  • Cutting My Dividends By 35% - Improving My Dividend Growth Portfolio  [View article]
    @Tallguyz -
    You are right, T adds like a penny a year and DUK not much better. But they do have some other advantages that I have noticed by owning them for several years. They do rise with the tide somewhat. Both are up over 30% for me. And I do notice that they do buffer me defensively. When the market takes a dip - they seldom if ever take the same level of dip and sometimes they even go counter market and go up a bit.

    @ advisor4

    Thank you for the suggestion! But you busted me a little - I lied and do like the opportunity for a little appreciation and growth of the actual dividend.

  • Why Intel Is Back On Track  [View article]
    I am a long time INTC bull and it has been berry berry good to me. However, the stock reaction to a minor forecast revision is over the top. If you are a short term investor - would avoid INTC like the plague.

  • McDonald's Shares Undervalued Even With Higher Minimum Wage  [View article]
    I own MCD - but buyer beware and don't miss the point. The point is that MCD has powerful enemies on the left that have targeted them, not BK, not Wendy's. The obese police are after them. Are they worse than BK, DQ in reality? Of course not - they are better. The unions are after their workers - do they pay their workers worse than anyone else? No. Why do people rob banks with all their security systems? Because that is where the money is. Analyzing MCD by facts without judging the political climate they live in is dangerous IMHO.

  • Cutting My Dividends By 35% - Improving My Dividend Growth Portfolio  [View article]
    I think many investors may find themselves in my boat - I use high yielding stocks (Think T) because I cannot get a CD of 4-5% anywhere. So I need to add risk to get my 4-5% rate of return. Over time - I have taken my CD cash holdings down just because I do not have viable risk free alternatives that can provide income during my retirement. I don't like the fees associated with annuities - so I look at T, DUK, ED as critical components of my portfolio - and I do not focus on their growth - just want consistent divvy payments through my retirement. They are critically important to me, and I could really give 2 shytes about their growth - just hungry for the divvy.

  • Intel: Can You Now Spare A Penny?  [View article]
    @ Bill - Thank you for the reply and I stand corrected on the OPEX issue. Still say the point is valid - that the net of this "forecasted increase" isn't enough to write home about and doesn't materially impact their cash flow enough to justify an increase. The only thing that makes this issue relevant is that there was such negative sentiment believing that INTC was basically dead money from a growth perspective.
