  • Earnings Preview: Intel Corp. Q1 2014 [View article]
    I have girded my loins for yet another INTC disappointment. I was thinking of selling at $26 + but have decided to stay long. I think the run up is garbage though, all analysts upgrade with no real catalysts to justify the increase. What INTC told me was they would be flat + they have to have givebacks to stay flat. Nothing the company has said, nor the analysts have challenged or changed that narrative. I imagine we will see a 5% + drop if the scenario they have already communicated comes to fruition during the earnings release.

    When WMT flexes the muscle of their logistics chain and commodity purchasing power, Whole Foods will definitely feel some pain.

  • GM's Ignition Vs. Tesla's Titanium And 'Befuddling' Peak Deliveries [View article]
    I have run businesses for 30 years. I have faced this issue many, many times. Not once did I even consider not notifying my customers immediately on a safety issue. When you have the right culture, it is a reflex. Do I want to have person's death or injury on my conscience? Are you kidding me? This is shameful, and the attempt to cover up in statistics is just as shameful Miro.

    Henry - I really appreciated this article. It struck right in the heart of my area of interest, as I actually put more weight into my divvy income than my overall portfolio value. As a QQ - when I read CTL - it sounded like a perfect candidate to be swallowed up. Do you have any thoughts on this? Would they be large enough to cause restraint of trade issues with Uncle Sam?

    @Miro -
    With all due respect, I think you are missing the point. What is hurting GM is that they learned of a fixable defect that caused some deaths and did not act on the information. Period. Now if your loved one was one of those few deaths, you just couldn't conclude that overall safety is good. It was a very bad decision IMHO.

    Don't think POTUS will allow them to pull the old GM crap - the Dems would be slaughtered. Can we spell veto proof majority?

    GMs actions are more than civil - they may have criminal liability.

    I manufactured titanium jet engine exhaust assemblies and they cost like $300 for a 1 foot section of raw tube.

    Thank you John - I live and work in Mexico and know the culture very well, and indeed KO and equal importance Ciel are 2 brands that are an integral part of the Mexican way of life. I am unsure if this kind of brand loyalty exists in other parts of Latin America etc. Many people only think of KO as a soda company, but in my travels outside of US - they are a huge source of potable water, and in these countries, almost all drinking water comes from the bottle. Being able to distribute clean drinking water anywhere in the world is an underappreciated part of KO.

  • Intel Loses Galaxy Tab 4 Deal But Management Is Still Bullish On Tablets [View article]
    Thank you for your response @money. I think I have some perverse relationship with INTC. When everyone is pessimistic on the stock I feel better than when it is climbing. But this really seems excessive to me.

    I am getting the feel that I should take some more INTC off the table. The stock has gone up, primarily due to some key upgrades. But what has really changed from their disappointing forecast for 2014? What catalysts are there to support this movement? I get the PC downturn may not be as severe as anticipated in 2014 - but that is the absence of a negative - I just do not see anything out there that is a positive catalyst. What do you guys think?

    Very interesting post and situation. Always learning something about the market. I guess my portfolio has been overly defensive, as I have been climbing during this period. DUK, KO, T, and INTC crushing it. Oil down, but not severely punished. Made me appreciate what I have a little more. I focus more on sustainably divvy than valuation anyway - but it was nice to see some cornerstones of my portfolio hold up well. Thanks again for the observations, they really interest me and keep me more curious than the cat. Of course we know what killed the cat LOL.
