  • The Comfort In Watching Coca-Cola Decline 25% [View article]
    I guess you lost me a little bit - isn't addressing a 25% decline just building a straw man to knock him down? KO has traded in one of the tightest ranges over the past 52 weeks and is dead set in the middle of it right now. Seems to get a lot of technical support in the $39-$40 range.

    Personally, wouldn't mind seeing the CEO get the boot, but I am likely overreacting. Just really picked a scab when Kent put forth the infamous compensation system that attacked the shareholders. If you are increasing shareholder value I can buy it - but it just came across as "tone deaf".

    I will likely always have some KO. Many people think of it as a beverage company but there is so much more. They are a vital source of clean water all over the world, and most importantly, they can reach every nook and cranny of this globe faster and cheaper than anyone. That translates to a lot of future opportunities, M&A stuff.

  • Duke Energy: Time To Get Going [View article]
    I am with you here. Think this company is starting to kick a little butt. The integration synergies starting to come on line, a clear strategy on aging facilities, real defensive properties to help you through the tough times - love me some DUK and will stay long with them through thick and thin at least thru the next few years.

  • McDonald's: An Undervalued Dividend Champion I Bought With A Margin Of Safety [View article]
    I am a long time MCD shareholder and am appreciative of their efforts and returns. However - I have never been more down on this stock, and in a word it just seems adrift. I agree that there is a strong real estate play - but I would really rather see them add some shine to the golden arches. They are not making solid progress on improved product quality. They are not taking share, they are not keeping up, and they have to be better than what they have shown. It is like the obese police have gotten down and they cant get up. I wish them luck - but I am starting to look at some sort of exit. To their credit, I have a lot of realized gains to deal with.

  • ConocoPhillips Continues To Reward Its Shareholders [View article]
    @txcounselor -

    Let me try to make you feel better counselor. I am a long time COP shareholder and the key is that this mgt team is dedicated to its shareholders. They are the absolute best at saying what they will do and doing what they say. They have the best DRIP program out there, just drip, avg down and smile all they way to the bank.

  • Ensco's Second Quarter 2014 Results Are Not As Bad As They First Appear [View article]
    Color me confused as hell.
    1. I don't think the market would pound ESV for a non cash writedown.
    2. Weird that you have that size of writedown on 32 year old assets. What the heck are they doing, using a depreciable life of a century?

  • Intel: No Dividend Raise Just Yet [View article]
    You have to give divvy owners of INTC some credit. You think I will complain because my divvy went from over 4% to under 3%? After being stuck in neutral, and sometimes reverse for a couple of years, I am quite willing to let these guys decide where the money is invested, and trust their decisions. You get that right and trust when you increase shareholder value.

  • Pepsi Vs. Coke: Get The Facts [View article]
    Anyone else think the CEO should be given the boot? I hate to be over alarmist guy - but it is just difficult to reconcile the laggard performance vs. the design of a compensation system that would dilute and attack the shareholders further. Almost a "tone deaf" move more like a politico than a business leader. Anyway - will definitely stay long, but likely unhappily so in the near future.

  • Update: Ensco Earnings [View article]
    @losbronces + @ Retracement -
    Thank you very much for your comments - they are appreciated. I did something that I do not like to do. I bought based on valuation metrics + dip and did not do my usual scrubbing and understanding of the business. I just have struggled to find divvy income companies < 10.

  • Update: Ensco Earnings [View article]
    Hoping that someone here can give me some insight. Just bought ESV but basically based on EPS. If I use $1.50 per quarter we are looking between 8-9 PE. Is there a central reason why they are so beat up? I couldn't catch any real issues in research - they seem to be best in sector.
