  • Following both supply chain and sales checks, BMO joins Pac Crest in asserting BB10 (BBRY -1.4%) channel inventories are rising. "Last quarter, we assumed 300k–400k of sell-through on 1M of sell- in for BB 10 devices. We believe May could have an even larger ... discrepancy," says analyst Tim Long. He thinks strong sell-in could let FQ1 sales beat expectations, but doesn't see the momentum lasting. Long also believes FQ1 sub losses could total 2M, and sees falling emerging markets carrier ARPUs pressuring service revenue. Raymond James, meanwhile, thinks BB10 sell-through "might have been slower than expected," and forecasts sub losses of 3M. (Bernstein) (RBC[View news story]

  • After opening higher, BlackBerry (BBRY -1.6%) has slumped in the wake of another critical note from Deutsche's Brian Modoff. Though believing BlackBerry's FQ1 results (due June 28) could beat estimates, Modoff says BB10 checks have been mixed, with Europe a weak spot. He's also worried about Q5 demand in emerging markets due to possible pricing and app fragmentation issues, and mentions BlackBerry's U.K. managing director "abruptly left the company this week." Look for more gibberish in the next few days as the shorts ramp up the rhetoric. They can't say anything of the quarter just passed, so now they are assuming the future problems. The only fragmentation visible is in bernies brain.

  • BlackBerry (BBRY) has upped its component purchases from Taiwanese suppliers thanks to strong BB10 sales, supply chain sources tell Digitimes. The sources add Indonesian and Middle Eastern sales are healthy, and that if other emerging markets prove strong, BlackBerry is likely to ship 30M-40M smartphones in 2013 - Feb. quarter shipments totaled 6M, and were down 23% Y/Y. BBRY +1% in spite of lower NASDAQ futures. The sell-side has been arguing back and forth over BB10's early reception. [View news story]
I don't know why people listen to James faucette and push the sell button. Looks like they have no conviction for the company and are just going in for making a fast buck. You need a lot of patience and hopefully June 28 will reward those who hung in.

  • Early feedback on U.K./Canadian BlackBerry Q10 (BBRY -4%) sales indicate volumes below expectations, says Cleveland Research. The firm also thinks Z10 sell-thru is likely half of what it was around launch time, and believes BB10 build targets for the next few quarters could fall to 6M-8M from 10M-12M. Likewise, Pac Crest remains bearish, and calls the U.K./Canadian Q10 launches a "mess." The remarks follow a pessimistic note about BB10 sales on Monday from Canaccord, and one on April 25 from Wedge Partners. Jefferies has been more positive. [View news story]
