  • AT&T declares $0.47 dividend [View news story]
If I am accumulating for retirement income...

It seems a stable stock that pays 5.6% and gives a 2+ raise each year could grow my income by 7.6+% / year.

If my stock is growing in price, I get less re-invested dividends and the income growth gets watered down.

  • CEO Pay At Coca-Cola: Up Or Down? [View article]

    (1) "CEO Muhtar Kent had "respectfully requested forgoing any annual incentive award for 2014."
    - So the CEO shows some integrity and you complain?

    (2) "In contrast, Kent received a bonus of $2.2 million in 2013, but $0 in 2014."
    - 2.2 mill still sounds like a lot of money to lose yoy.

    (3) "because of the release of deferred performance share units (PSUs) earned for a 2010-2012 performance period."
    - Yup! they were earned based on his performance in those years. Basically he
gave KO a 2-4 year loan on money he had already earned by contract.

    OK, I give up.
What will Winters do if he gets his hands on KO?

Chop it up, sell at the top and leave the employees and long term investors holding the bag.

  • The Fresh Market: Analyzing The Decision To Abandon California [View article]
Looks like a smart move by TFM.

California has slowed water infrastructure investment since the Wilson administration. Now that we are in another dry cycle, the agricultural regions are being squeezed for water. With reduced yield, the big boys will be first in line for the produce.

  • Message To McDonald's Management: Don't Sell The Real Estate Assets [View article]
    Thanks Steven,

"While this may be a quick way to generate substantial cash and most likely give the stock price a pop, it would also leave the rest of the firm much weaker in the long run."

    ... the money quote.

The "activist investors" tend to also be hedge fund owner/ manager traders looking for a quick buck before moving on the the next target.

Although I hope for success for traders in general, I have a problem when manipulators ...create.. trading situations.

  • The Financial Folly Lurking Beneath Yellen's Patient Lack Of Impatience [View article]
Interesting article David, but you need to flesh out more...

    (1) "Even if the current $83 trillion household wealth figure is adjusted for the GDP deflator, it still means that there has been a 40% gain in aggregate real household net worth since the turn of the century."

Yes, but is there a link to the elimination of pensions in favor of 401K as retirement for workers since 2000? Seems your 401K is much easier to value than a pension with the variable of how long one might live.

    (2) "By contrast, real wage and salary income is only up by only 17% and median real household income is actually down from $57k to $52k or by nearly 10%."

Yup, welcome to the expected (by the elites) effect of illegal immigration on farm, construction and other jobs that have the largest number of workers and dont require college training.

.... but don't worry, the conniving captains of Silicon Valley and other venues are agitating for expanded H1-B visas for foreign employees at $0.60 - $0.70 on the dollar versus our kids that went to school here and in most cases have better GPA and experience.

  • The Financial Folly Lurking Beneath Yellen's Patient Lack Of Impatience [View article]
    When in the 60's?
Inflation was stoked during Johnson to help pay for Vietnam with inflated dollars and finance the Great Society boon dogle (Guns n' Butter).

It seems a lot of folks were seeing the writing on the wall by 1968. If he sold around then he was just acting on the emerging consensus at the time. If he sold earlier he lost a big run up in prices.

  • What If Your Share Price Stagnates... Forever? [View article]
    Thanks Eli,

I'll take a 3% div with 5-7% yearly increase and stagnant price any time. Once I retire the price can go to the moon, since I will have constructed my money machine in the years prior.

  • The Dividend Aristocrats: Should They Be A Part Of Your Investing Decision? (Part 1) [View article]
Always great to read your articles, Mr. C

.."particular purchase is a "compelling value" and that the stock is currently selling at a "discrepancy between the value of the business and the price.".."

Yup, for me personally, this takes a leap of faith on what may be yet to come.

Based on that, I added EMR to my portfolio last month and as long as Mr. Market keeps it in the 50's, I shall likely add with my collected March dividends.

    Dang it!
now all the "smart money" will smartly follow what is posted on SA and drive the price up.
