  • A Dividend Growth Investor's Perspective On Advisor Perspectives' Negatives About Dividend Investing  [View article]
    Interesting article David.

I look at the daily/ weekly/ monthly/ quarterly.... etc. market gyrations and wonder at the effort put eggs in a growth basket and hope one can time stock sales to fund one's retirement.

I cashed out Mutual funds in Oct 2010 and bought CCC stocks. I still can't believe the income growth rate from investment grade stocks.

Are you sure this DGI is legal?

  • Stick with quality energy stocks amid the carnage, analyst says  [View news story]
    What, me worry?

My observations are that stock prices decline in the week between the two week pay period most folks are on these days.

Don't worry, the the 30th is nigh so I am awaiting "unexpected growth in ....." and prices will rebound for the next week, then fall..... wash, rinse, repeat.

  • Bert's Recent Buy - EMR... Too  [View article]
I also filled my EMR position a bit early in mid-50's.

But, the low prices are an effective double digit increase in dividend payout, while they last.

Hence for the long term investor, re-invested dividends and stock price gyrations can make the purchase price nearly irrelevant. More than likely for stocks with such a sustained track record.

    Great article George.

I added to PFE in my brokerage 401k last Friday, as a Health Care proxy for GE, which I had added to 2 wks before.

PFE is down today but then again, when I retire in 4-5 yrs, the purchase will look like pure genius, I am quite sure.

Based on your dad, I would suggest to start your piano lessons sooner, think how good you will be at 100!

I built an electric guitar (Les Paul style) 5 yrs ago and have been playing the heck out of it... and I have another 5 yrs to 66.

Perhaps we could start a combo.... ;-)

  • Dividends & Income Digest: Is The BDC Sector In Oversold Territory With An Average Yield Of 11.5%?  [View article]
Thank you Robyn and Buzz for a most excellent and informative article.

I have used Buzz's insight over the past couple years to inform my BDC investments such that I have now trimmed down to MAIN in two accounts.

Not too volatile for me, I just set the position size to pay near the same dividends as the other positions (see my portfolio 2 on bio).

Thanks again Robyn for your new initiative, very helpful for those of us walking the walk.

  • Petrochem stocks jump as IRS considers rule change  [View news story]
Well I for one would sure be PO'ed to see LYB join the MLP walking dead.
KMI joined the living and hopefully LYB stays that way.

This is a great company, with great products and technology, great cash flow so why become a MLP?

If they do such a dumb thing, many of us ... investors... holding in IRA, 401K will need to dump or face accounting headaches.

  • How To Peel RMDs From Your IRA Onion Without Worrying You'll Outlive Your Money: Retire And Be Happy  [View article]
    Thanks for the article George,

I still have quite some time until RMDs so this is very helpful to get a gauge of what lies ahead.

I also note that many of your stocks tend to raise their dividends each year, so the income each year will increase all the more.

    I appreciate your article Shelby,

My Ancient Celtic ancestors worried that the sky might fall on their heads and kill them all.

So until that happens, I am long COP in IRA and CVX (adding now and then) in brokerage 401K.

    Sound advice RS,

I am approaching my 5th year of DYI/ DGI and have come to many the same views as you and many other fine SA authors.

I've got my IRA on auto re-invest for the approaching bargains. For my brokerage 401K I look for bargains every 2 weeks..... I try to keep the 7 positions near equal in their contribution to future income, but Mr. Market keeps insisting I add to CMI.

Not a bad problem to have, I suppose...

all the best wishes to you sir!

While others may clutch their pearls or wring their hands, I'll take the 30+% price reduction over the past several quarters as a 30+% effective increase in payout for my re-invested divvies.

In all the articles of $10,000 investments growing to $1,000,000 over 25 - 30 years of re-invest and hold, these are the years that fed that growth.

    long and re-investing PG.

Thank you for an interesting article DD,

The current share prices are giving a substantial effective dividend increase for re-investing, a nice situation for those of us still in accumulation phase.
