Dave, thanks for this article..can you answer this question please..looking at sentiment readings in the past 10 years where does the HUI stand? I take it that the bearish sentiment on this index is at a multiyear extreme low. Is that correct and can one trade this index (GDX) based on sentiment? Thanks. Ma11hew

  • Rethinking Gold Asset Allocations For 2013 [View article]
The point is that one is looking at a more realistic underlying inflation relative to the price of gold as a hedge against inflation. How does one measure inflation? The market in gold does. The market does not rely on govt stats...the market sets the price.

Paul, much wisdom in your observation..the market sets the price no matter what anyone thinks or feels..INTC looks good at 20 until the market makes it look better at 15..

If one measures current inflation using the methodology the government used in 1980 is the point..

If one looks at the way cpi was once calculated, inflation today is running at about 8% a year. Gold prices have more than kept up. I think we are just in a correction and as usual people are now coming out saying the top was in this year..as for investors in precious metals this is a good sign we are eventually headed higher in prices..

Thank you Ivan for this article and your analysis..Fascinating to me. I like the logic of the article and have one question for you if you please. Are you a believer in the secular pattern of the stock market, ie is the dow in a bear market rally from 2009 low and are we headed back to the 666 area of the sp500 in the near future? If we do end up back down at those levels and you do adhere to the secular bear market thesis, then would that be the low of the current secular bear? Thanks much. Ma11hew
