This morning's spike in shares of Westport Innovations (WPRT +7.6%) on takeover speculation gains momentum into the close. Chatter centers around potential interest from Cummins (CMI +0.3%), already involved in a JV that accounts for much of WPRT's medium-term profits. [View news story]
I have been a buyer of WPRT from the low teens. Sold 50% at $49.50 and started buying back from $31 down to $22. It is by far the largest holding in my portfolio and if it breaks through the $31.60 barrier I will probably buy more.

I am long on WPRT and would not like to see a takeover. WPRT has the ability to hit $100 a share on its own and no takeover offer is likely to show that return.

Although I am long on WPRT and have great confidence in its future, your comment that FSYS predictions have been wide of the mark in the past and, therefore, it's forecasts are not credible could easily be also applied to WPRT. Personally I hope that WPRT does not go after FSYS. They should concentrate on what they are doing and not be sidetracked into a difficult takeover.
Public Rebuttal To Pandora's Box On Golar LNG [View article]
Excellent rebuttal of an unidentified attempt to push the stock lower. Obviously Pandora's Box is shorting the stock and I think that they will be unsuccessful since the fundamentals justify the current price (and more). Thank you Pedro, you certainly did your homework.
Sell Husky Energy - A Company Can Take Only So Much Negative News At A Time [View article]
The most significant piece of information was not in the article itself but the disclosure that the author intends to short Husky. This article, to me, was an effort to create a selling enviroment with little fact but lots of "generalities". The fact that the author did not even know that Husky pays a nice dividend and failed to mention that you cannot short it except on the Toronto exchange shows that the motive for this article is very questionable. I am long Husky and intend to stay so.

I am long on CHK at $26.55 but I am concerned about their cash position. At 12/31/08 that had NET Current Assets of $0.6 billion. By 12/31 09 this had turned into minus $0.4 billion and by 12/31/10 it had ballooned to minus $1.2 billion. I am anxious to see what the 12/31/11 balance sheet shows. If this goes up any higher then I think that I am a seller as I believe that I will be able to buy them back at a lower price.

Mr. Neumeyer was only asked to comment on silver, therefore, whether this applies to other commodities or not is the really MOOT point. Other than this, I agree completely with the first part of your response.

I AM AN ACTIVE TRADER. I CONSIDER A SHORT TERM INVESTMENT ONE THAT I HOLD FOR LESS THAN 48 HOURS; A MEDIUM TERM INVESTMENT IS ONE THAT I HOLD FOR NO MORE THAN FOURTEEN DAYS AND A LONG TERM INVESTMENT IS ONE THAT I HOLD FOR MORE THAN FOURTEEN DAYS.

I agree with your choices of BP. CNX, MEE & SLB but wouldn't touch RIG. I think that you missed out a couple that are just as good - CHK, NRG & WCAT. I am long on all of these.
