The beneficiaries of this recession will be the telecos. People will let their fingers do the walking and use less energy. They will keep their old phones longer as they are keeping their old cars longer as the incremental improvements are no longer worth the money if you are strapped for cash.
Winners will be the Telcos and as capacity utilization increases the telco equipment providers.
I'd like a new iPhone but my current phone does everything I need (if not everything I want). So I'll hold onto it for a couple more years and endure the hardship of not having a phone that does gestures.

I've owned Macs and PCs and while i prefer the Mac i always wind up with a PC because you really do get more bang for the buck. I cannot get myself to pay the premium.
And while the Mac is definitely easier to use once you spend the time to learn the PC and know it well enough the ease of use issue goes away, at least for me.

Well years ago many complained that the Mac was closed and the PC open. This openess lead to viruses, spyware, root kits and no end of malware. In the end of the day if it is a phone it has to make an answer calls. Apple is right in not letting anything run in the background, in that way they can insure the phone works OK. There will be no end of misery with the gphone when some poorly written or malicious apps reek havoc with the calling capability.
