  • Altria Will Continue To Flourish And Create Shareholder Value Far Into The Future [View article]
    I Quit!
1.5+ PPD (packs per day) of Marlboro Reds (24mg/ml). 50+ years.

On 6/7/14 it will be 3 months. It took some time and $ to climb the e-cig learning curve, then fine tune it, but I know I won't go back. Plus been cutting back on the nicotine. Now at 15 (between Lites & Mediums).

Sold my MO (and soon PM) when I realized how relatively painless it is to quit tobacco. And vaping is actually more enjoyable. Before I sold MO I checked their Green Smoke web site: weak. And with vaping shops popping up around me in San Antonio like mushrooms, the closest shop carrying GS was 65 miles away in Austin.

  • E-cigarettes may help smokers kick the tobacco habit [View news story]
Philip, switching to e-cigarettes is quitting the inhalation of the combustion of tobacco (and its 600 assorted chemical byproducts).

I've gone from smoking 1.5+ packs of Marlboro Reds (2.4mg/ml nicotine) a day, to vaping (vaporizing) less than 0.5 packs of equivalent e-cigs (with 1.5mg/ml of nicotine) per day. USP Vegetable Glycerin (an ingredient in asthma inhalers) and USP Nicotine (known to NOT cause cancer), and a small % of flavoring, such as is in Nicorette Quickmist.

I have not smoked a tobacco cigarette in almost 3 months, after a 50 year habit. Haven't run the mile yet, but I have stopped coughing.

BTW, I sold all my MO (but continue to hold PM) after determining that is was relatively easy to quit smoking tobacco using e-cigs.

Kevin, thanks for staying on top of the SZYM story.

To Jeremy, I use Zaimo10 "Leather in a Bottle" on my 11-year-old 350Z seats. It's an expensive treatment & conditioner, but it brings back the new car leather smell.

  • The ABCs Of Dividend Investing: Divi-Do Or Divi-Don't? [View article]
    Thanks for this interesting article.

Data interpretation is a tricky thing. When I looked at your 1st graph I saw XLU as the one outlier (instead of your 2 outliers XLE and XLK) and a horizontal line at about 30% price appreciation.

Admittedly, that R^2 (by eyeball) is less than your 80%, but throwing out 2 of only 9 data points makes your analysis questionable.

I would posit that throwing out XLU (utilities that are highly interest rate dependent) would make sense in a year of rising rates.

Therefore, with a horizontal line at 30%, there is no correlation between price appreciation and dividend growth.

I would add that I am a DGI (50% of PF), with the other 1/2 in MLP's.

Opportunist, is your 2013 started hedge fund short SZYM?

You question Kevin's credibility and integrity? Have you met with Solazyme's management? Visited their HQ? Where's your credibility?

SZYM's "glaring issues" have been thoroughly covered in the past.
You have about a month to cover your short before the next CC.

    Thanks Kevin for your update.
