Starbucks: Understanding the Business Model

I am a Chinese, living in Shanghai. Starbux is everywhere in Shanghai now and always so busy. Just one thing: some stores are so small that I don't think it makes economic sense. Even in full capacity, only less than, say, 10-15 people can be served. How can they afford the overhead in that kind of stores?
