The stocks below showed the largest increase in borrowing cost last week, from May 6 to May 13. The list was taken from US, Canadian and Japanese stock universe. An increase in cost-to-borrow indicates a greater demand to short and/or a reduced supply of available shares to borrow.
Short sellers have been steadily building up positions in AIG since early January
Since it peaked in early January, AIG's share price has steadily made its way towards that $30 level. Over the same time period, shares borrowed (and shorted) has increased from 16 million shares to 28 million shares.
