  • Time to sell drillers as Petrobras cuts rig rates, analyst says [View news story]
Div yld + balance sheet = ESV. I will stay long, thank you very much.

Analyst/journalist attempt to push names down so they can set up nice positions...we may have a bit further to come down in the near term, but these names aren't going anywhere. Noise noise noise...wish I had more free cash to load up further. I would have to sell my 25% win in NOV to buy more! Regards, Moses

  • Reuters: ArcelorMittal sends letter of intent for Italian steel plant [View news story]
I do not believe you are in a bad way, marpy. If you are a true long, you are all set. Accumulate below and around $13 is my thought...

I sold the rest of my position when it got down into the low $14 range, taking my remaining 18% profit and exiting stage left. I will be back in if we drift lower from here, which is entirely possible. I love MT, and have made good money in the name, but I had some other ideas I wanted to explore and used MT profits to do so.

    Regards, Moses

  • Staples: A Value Trap? [View article]
I bought in to SPLS after it came off $11 a share. The 4+% div yld while we wait for improvement in the business, ongoing share buybacks, belt tightening, focus on improving online presence, etc. all lead me to believe that this stock will be at $15-16 a share in less than two years.

We shall see. Here's to making some money, Moses

  • ArcelorMittal: Why I Hold What I Hold [View article]
    Frank,

I have been 'long' MT since late 2011, but I have been diligent about getting out when I thought things were a bit too rosy (example: $23 a share in early 2012). Looking back, I timed my exits fairly well over the last couple years...but I studied up before buying in.

I averaged back in at $12.50-13 in early 2013, and just finished selling the rest of my position again this week when my profit dipped below 20%. This name has been too volatile to just sit on based on all the macro factors that affect this steel giant...

That being said, if you are truly a long term investor, you could/should accumulate MT under $15/share and let it ride. This one will make you pretty happy long term.

MT is a well run global steel behemoth. Iron ore continues to make up more and more of their profits, which is good considering the price per ton of steel at this juncture. Price pressures continue to mount, but mgmt is aggressively reducing debt and trying to acquire (iron ore) assets on the cheap for the inevitable rebound in steel pricing. They make much more on margin in iron ore than in steel...plus they have the benefit of buying and supplying their own feedstock, cutting input costs.

I love MT and will be back in when we drift down further from here. Price to book is still a reasonable metric when dealing in something like global steel...you jsut need patience...

Keep studying and thanks for the article, Moses

  • Staples: The First Casualty Of The Wal-Mart/Amazon War [View article]
    Interesting perspective, Mr. Author...

I actually bought SPLS...it has a market leading position, it generates strong FCF and maintains a nice balance sheet. The share price is unbelievably low considering mgmt's focus on consolidation (store closures), beefing up its online presence, stock buybacks, etc. Not to mention the nice dividend while we await improved results.

I want to increase the size of my position just writing that.

    Regards, Moses

  • Uranerz upsizes offering to $12M, 9.6M units [View news story]
URG's written contracts seem quite favorable considering the disparity between current spot.

Hopefully URZ's geographic location/size of holdings in proximity to Cameco leads to a buy out offer later...

I'm already in Michael, but an uptick in spot U prices would surely help these low cost juniors...regards, Moses

PS. I also started a position in URG...which may be just a tad bit ahead of URZ, but not by much.
