  • Apple $700: Don't Get Burned Again [View article]
Just one thought - PG had to "go cheap", reaching down the economic ladder to attract more customers. Everyone questioned the move at the time, but management realized that changes neded to be made to secure the lon gterm viability of their brands...PG spent good time and money analyzing the global economic landscape and made the decision to adjust their corporate focus a bit, and now they are doing just fine.

I know I will be crucified for comparing laundry detergent to smartphones, but when you commoditize anything, you must adjust your corporate mindset.

AAPL will not lose its faithful customer base. The company is just broadening its footprint.

    Regards, Moses

  • Protected Principal Retirement Strategy: Will Apple Ever Become A Dividend Portfolio Candidate? [View article]
Well akaralph, as you can see, by doing so {mentioning AAPL} you get hundreds of comments...so mentioning it does have that going for it...a whole bunch of page hits, most of which aren't very constructive...it is just a polarizing name. I have to admit, your article offered a slightly different perspective...which is what all investors SHOULD be reading. Confirmation bias is rampant on both sides of this trade.

    Cheers, Moses

Akaralph, this isn't pointed at you, but at the collective mass of AAPL articles that have proliferated on SA over the past six months. It seems as if everybody (authors and commenters) are trying to add something worthwhile to this ongoing conversation, but it all comes off as well, less than worthwhile.

In the past I proposed - only partly tongue in cheek - a moratorium on AAPL articles for a few months. This would give us all time to really think about whether or not this particular name is a reasonable investment without all the "article noise".

Disclosure: I bought and AAPL at a price a few bucks north of where it sits right now. I bought a small position mostly because I thought that the current and rising divvie, along with all that cash on hand, was enough of a reason to hold this name for a bit until they made a splash with a new innovation.

Watching this stock sink to your "intrinsic value" would suck for me, but that is my problem. My thought is we are headed up through $500 before you know it.

A watched pot however, never boils.

    Regards, Moses

  • Apple Exits The Steve Jobs Era, Bets On Engineering Of The Financial Kind [View article]
I picked up some AAPL not because I am an Apple product enthusiast, but because I felt strongly that with all the noise, the cash hoard coupeld with loyal followers would bring this sucker up from the 'depths' of 400+/- a share...sprinkle on a little financial engineering and ponder for a moment that AAPL's global ecosystem is guided by a board that has a biochemist as its leader...

Patience is my 'best friend' in this business of stock-picking. Granted, I don't always listen to my best friend...

With all that is swirling around this stock/company, I will stay long my tiny position. I think it will prove to be a reasonable investment. Regards, Moses

  • Apple $395: Time To Give Up And Abandon Ship? [View article]
I am tired of yapping about AAPL. It makes my head hurt. What doesn't make my head hurt - one of the best screen names around - BADSANGRIA! Well wait, bad sangria does make your head hurt. Nevermind.

    Awesome handle.

Android Razr Maxx HD for me, thank you. My small AAPL position is a response to the insanity surrounding this name.

I propose a moratorium on AAPL related stories on SA for about a month. It would give everyone time get out of the emotion surrounding this name. Regards, Moses

SoCal88, I am with you...20-30% gain on my first foray into AAPL would be nice.

  • Apple: Probably Going To Remain Painful For The Average Investor [View article]
As Brennan offered, there is an awful lot of emotion around AAPL, just read the comments above. SA articles related in some way to Apple plague my inbox. I do not own a single Apple device, but once the stock skittered below $450, I couldn't resist nibbling a bit - so I bought 10 shares. If you see an earnings beat, look out; warm money will flood in...if they miss, who knows. I am no expert, but I do belive that the "ecosystem argument" is in Apple's favor.

I chose to load up on basic materials, which are boring, unsexy, and only newsworthy when at extremes...and where I think I will make more money than AAPL. Regards, Moses

  • Apple's True Opportunities In 2013 [View article]
Am an Android guy and I bought a few shares of AAPL as I believe the market collectively overshot to the downside (as usual). With that kind of cash horde, you almost can't lose reagrdless of your "skill set" as CEO.

Great article, however. Interesting ideas. Moses

  • Apple Is Not Worth $460 [View article]
Much like the author, not trying to be a hero, just looking to make some money. Bought a small position under $460 and will watch like everyone else. I love my Droid and dont buy Apple products, but it was irresistable to me as a value play in my equity book...and still is. May buy again if it slips significantly (400-420). Regards, Moses

  • Apple: The $200 Billion Question [View article]
Thanks, Bilton. Regardless of what JasonC seeks to do with his investment dollars, what I seek to do is make money in the long run, plain and simple.

This will be my last comment in this string as I can see where JasonC is coming from, and we have a different view of the same glass. I take from his commentary that I am NOT a value investor, but a speculator. Fair enough; I have been called much worse. For all the purists, including JasonC, my apologies for studying the old masters and trying to make my way in a modern world.

I will close with this quote, from JasonC -

"An investor does not care what other stockholders do after he buys, other than as perhaps providing him examples of silliness in either direction that he might avail himself of as an opportunity."

Although I do not agree with the first portion of this statement, I guess the phrase-ology after the comma proves my point. Ben Graham and many small time investors of his time bought stocks and didn't look at them for a year. HOWEVER, they would decide at that time (a year later) whether or not to "avail [themselves] of...an opportunity".

Maybe we do share the same view after all. Happy investing, Moses
