  • Bill Gross's Dreadful Analysis Of The U.S. Economy's 'Wounded Heart' [View article]
    Look guys,

It's a lot of fun with the blue team verses red team stuff, but as soon as you know that all the pin heads in DC are worthless and the only real argument is who is more worthless.

It's a game, it's a institution, they know it, the red team verses blue team sell books and allow them to paid for being worthless. Great gig!

I think there is a lot of other sites besides Seeking Alpha to argue petty politics.

  • It Is Time To Swap Your Preferred Stock ETF Into This Preferred Stock Closed-End Fund [View article]
    Southgent,

I appreciate the advise, but I think I'll hold back a little longer for now, but good folks can just disagree, nothing wrong with that.

I always have to challenge myself, my logic and my strategy and be very careful that I do not allow "over confidence" to cloud my better judgment.

I'm unsure whether we have a much larger issue (global) which may cause a much larger impact to the market. Only time will tell, right?

At this time, I'm more interested in the global issue than how the fed is going to figure out how to wean us off 44 billion of bond buying each month.

Anyway, hope all works at for you and we will see how it goes.

    Scooter,

We need to be careful and see if this is going to another 2011 beat down. Eric Parnell has an excellent article on what could be behind all this stuff.

    Southgent,

Yes, I have used cefconnect.com and the other sites that you listed over the years. M* also has a CEF coverage.

George is a expert in this area, I really value his opinion, and really wanted to hear his thoughts/opinion verses just looking at links and charts.

I'm still in a wait mode for now, but developing my list of CEF buys, as we did during the Whitney correction and 08 correction.

My guess is we are still a week or two before it is time to start using some dry powder in this sector.

Best wishes and good luck to you, gratian

    Brad,

Yep! Eric Parnell has an excellent article on the impacts of Japan and perhaps something very different is going.

    http://seekingalpha.co...

We may be looking at a 2011 situation soon, so wisely managing the dry powder and portfolio risk would prudent at this time.

  • The Death Of Bonds Is Greatly Exaggerated [View article]
    Eric,

    Excellent article as always.

In regards to TIP's, what price would be attractive in your opinion?

I am also watching (TLT) and considering adding as a portfolio hedge in the 90's. Last time I added (TLT) and (TIP) was in 11, I believe and it turned into a very profitable position, perhaps sold to soon for gains, but profitable.

Thinking it might be close to swinging back in again, but appreciate your perspective.

    George,

Excellent article and appreciate all that you do.

The sell off for CEF's has me very interested, particularly the muni CEF's, do you have any that you think would be a good addition?

Last time I saw this type of action in the CEF space was the Ms. Whitney deal, maybe this time around will be just as profitable.

    Mike,

Check out treasurydirect.gov to store some cash, absolutely no fees, electronic transfer to and from your banking accounts.

A little bit of a pain to set up and learn how the account works, but I have been pleased overall.

You will not see a fluctuating market value each day in your treasurydirect.gov account.

I also use CD ladders as another tier for my cash or I guess you can look at it as a bucket approach, along with the ultra short stuff.

All depends if what color of cash, dry powder, cash allocation, emergency funds of my overall capital preservation.

Best wishes and maybe we can invest a little cash soon,

    Rich,

I agree with your comment, yes, income stocks are in the process of rotating out of favor for now, could change later down the road, but for now the trend is continuing.

I agree, (O) should not drop to $30 but $36 is looking like a good target. (O) is a great company, but bond yields are driving this train for now.

My daughter is flying in from Europe tonight and it has been over a year since we last saw each other. So we are very excited that we will get about 2 weeks to visit before she heads over seas again.

    HI Ron,

I agree with Rich, your DGI strategy of DCA and dripping will do the trick over the long run during this rotation and the bumps provided by the market. You are right, you are buying shares at lower prices and higher yields during this cycle.

Rich and I are more aligned as growth and income investors with a little more freedom making portfolio changes.

Hope you did not take my comments the wrong way. Just talking a different strategy and marching to a different drummer.

Best wishes and good hunting. gratian

    rich,

As you say, the market does provide a "gift" from time to time. I'm wondering how long it will be before we see a freak out moment.

Lot's of folks were sitting on some real nice unrecognized gains and now watching them slowly slip away each day. If this keeps up, you may just see a panic sell off.

Going to be real interesting if the yields continue to go up.

Best wishes my friend and good hunting, gratian

    Adam,

I do not see (O) @ $31, but I do believe $36 in the cards and could be a real possibility.

Thanks for the research, best wishes, gratian

    LA,

Good question, maybe someone will research that one.

The real issue is what will happen when or "if" CD's hit 4 to 5% yields. My guess is that a lot of retired folks along with some getting close to retirement are going to yank a good amount of change to CD's.

I will guarantee you I will be one of those increasing the capital preservation allocation :)

The market has one big public relations nightmare when it comes to screwing retail investors.

By the way, I would not hold your breath waiting on 5% CD's, no way the fed chief is going to allow that for a good long time.

  • This Big 7% Dividend Yield Comes In A Small REIT Package [View article]
    Brad,

Something to think about, which is adding a core - satellite designation to your newsletter two portfolio.

    (O) would = Core Position
    (WSR) would = Satellite Position

Of course it would be a "one to many" type of portfolio construction in which you would have two Satellite Positions for every core position.

Anyway, just a thought, best wishes and enjoyed the article, gratian
