  • Why Mattel Shareholders Should Be Concerned [View article]
Good luck trying to figure out women's body image issues. Even if you are right, Mr Greenberg, you will have to then figure out women's parenting issues. If their child is screaming for a doll, is the average house wife going to respond with a feminist polemic? I think not.

What I want to know about MAT is cash flow. Do they have the cash flow to either develop new products or acquire other companies?

  • Sturm, Ruger And The Case Of Depreciation Deception [View article]
"There is a very high short interest calling for the shares to return to the $15-dollar levels."

Can someone explain what this means? I'm an unsophisticated investor.

Part of DE's profits are linked to agriculture, which is impacted by ongoing drought conditions. If farmers suffer crop failures due to drought, they have no money to replace their machinery. Are you concerned? Just wondering.

Agreed. I thought that AAPL would tank when Jobs died, and, if it hasn't exactly tanked, the best you can say is that the jury's still out on Tim Cook's administration. At this point, Berkshire is a fantasy narrative with the lemmings following "the greatest investor in the world." They get a big kick out of meeting in Wichita and wearing name tags and being in a club. Or so it seems to me.

I sold a chunk yesterday too, but the economy is growing at 4% (excepting the 1st quarter) according to one egghead at Bank of America this morning. You fear a collapse, but what's coming looks like it's going to be a correction.

It's always a good idea to sell while you're in the green. So, what will you do with your money now? Put it in the bank and collect 0.X% interest? Or pile it up in your living room and stare at it while it fails to keep up with inflation? If the Fed is your enemy, it's because Bernanke eliminated interest rates, not because Yellen's going to raise them. Or so it sometimes seems to me.

  • General Electric Vs. Boeing [View article]
"One of the major things I like right now about Boeing is its simplicity. Its main growth driver for this year and many coming years is going to be delivering on the huge order backlog for its new Dreamliner."

    Thanks for the article, Bret.

I might argue that having this kind of simplicity makes BA's success too dependent on a single product. Like LMT with the FA-35. I wonder about that.

I agree that there will be an initial impact. This is a market that loves to panic. If Janet Yellen raises rates . . . If Janet Yellen lowers rates . . . If Janet Yellen blinks her eyes three times instead of twice . . . .
