  • General Electric Isn't Electrifying Anymore [View article]
"I'm not going to open a position in the name at this level, but if it begins to yield 4% on the dividend then I'm open to the idea."

That's what Kramer said this morning on CNBC. But he was half joking.

  • Industrial Giant GE Wants To Grow By Both Addition And Subtraction [View article]
It seems like GE is making big changes, and they are doing it expeditiously. To me, this shows some commitment to transforming the business. I'm not an investing expert like many SA-ers, but it seems to me that FOREX and energy fluctuations are transitory issues. Just my 2 cents.

    Long GE.

  • RoseNose: My Overvaluation Sales Mistake: Doh !! [View instapost]
Just a bit more re AAPL: At present, it is a growth stock. But with its enormous amount of cash, it is a could be a value stock. And, with a dividend sitting at just 1.6%, they haven't seriously begun to return money to shareholders. All this tells me that there is plenty of time with this stock.

I always follow your comments and now I am glad you are an Instablogger. Thanks again, Rose!

  • RoseNose: My Overvaluation Sales Mistake: Doh !! [View instapost]
    Good article, Rose.

I sold LMT, too. I thought having so much of the company riding on the F-35 was too risky. I didn't appreciate that every government in the world was going to order the plane, and that governments respond to cost overruns by shelling out more money. But I kept RTN.

(Note: I sold AAPL at $79 because I thought it was too risky to own a company that was lead and defined by a CEO with cancer. But I bought it back on the split at $89.)

Regarding selling: I have to learn how to better assess the financial health of companies. You and SA are helping. Thanks for that.

It will be interesting to see if this happens.

  • My Dividend Portfolio: Adding GE [View article]
Then, again, a manager gets paid to manage, i.e., to do something. If you believe in buying and holding, the "doing" has to stop at some point. Managers can't justify their salaries if they stop doing things — like having you sell things you might otherwise have held or having you buy things you might otherwise have ignored. See what I mean? Traders trade. Investors, not so much.

    But I could be wrong.

Thanks for the reply. I have HCP as well. I noticed today that it is growing its dividend at a rate of below 4%.

According to the same Fidelity site, both GE and MAIN, two of my other holdings, are doing a little better.

*Not arguing with you. Just thinking out loud.*
