      Apple and Intel Fail to Impress: Waiting for the Fed's Next Move
      AAPL stock just followed the market with all the fears of a recession. This is a financially sound company with no debt and billions in cash. How many large companies can say that?

      In addition, the continued increase in market share is a positive and will continue to be as these new switchers will be recurring buyers of Apple products in the future. I'm sure their in-direct advertising of Apple will help to produce more switchers within their own family/circle of friends.

      Also, the the fact that SJ got all of the major studios to sign up for iTunes movie rentals is a huge deal. This fact hasn't been mentioned much. Studios would not have agreed to this unless they understood the current DVD-sales situation and thought it would prove financially profitable.

      Lastly, Mr. Krasowski wrote that Macworld ". . .was deemed a
      failure. . ." I read the various reports of this, and on the surface I can see how MW08 did not compare emotionally to MW07 and the introduction of the iphone. In my opinion, however, one must remember that these responses are based on the fact that everyone knew what would be announced (aside from the MBA). Investors and media cannot expect every MW to be better than the last. I'll take the 4 million iphones to date, increased computer market share, 80 percent satisfaction rating for Leopard, and ipod domination.

      In my opinion, the stock will rise as investors see the situation for what it really is.

      Apple: Sell the News, For Now - Barron's
      I remember a Seinfeld espisode where George decided to "do the opposite" of every instinct and urge he had.....things worked out for him. When I here analysts telling me to sell.....I "do the opposite".

      Back when AAPL was at $7.00/share I almost borrowed some money to buy 1000 shares..... Fortunately, I was able to get in in the low 40s when rumors of the video ipod where on the internet. I've held on since then.

      I like what John C. said about revenue new revenue streams through iTunes....and what about the "iphone halo" effect? I have to believe the there are people right now in Apple stores looking at purchasing their first Mac -- all because of the user experience with the iphone.

      With the future looking so bright, the hard part will be knowing when to sell..........

      iPhone Earnings Could Push Apple Above $200/Share
      It is difficult to get a good sense of which way the iphone will go. There is a lot of positive analysis, yet, I've read from others that Apple will not have the kind of success they hope for. I guess it would depend on one's perspective.

      Looking at the history of the ipod, it is easy to see how wrong people can be. Apple had something to the effect of "This device will be revolutionary" on their website for weeks. They even had a countdown timer. After SJ introduced the 1st gen ipod, I can remember reading many posts on forums like this that said it was just another mp3 player. Jobs could "see the future" whereas most of the general public could not. Even analysts were not impressed. How wrong they were. Will history repeat itself with the iPhone? I hope so.

      Malkiel, I've often thought of the trailing-limit-sell as a great way to protect profits. I bought in the 40s and don't want to lose any more upside potential. Many sold long ago only to wish that they had held......never thinking the stock would go this high. Now, analysts have $160 targets? Whoa!

      Any way, I was wondering if you/someone might point me to some good sites on how these trailing stops work (and how to utilize them well).

      One other question. What happens if you set one of these stops and the stock splits?

      Apple Shares Continue To Rise: Here's Why
      Analysts are suddenly fawning over Apple because "those they work with" have already purchased their shares. I read in an article today that last week 100,000 share blocks were going through. I'll bet that in the fall Apple will suddenly develop a few negatives from analysts.....this will, of course, happen after institutions have sold.

      Rumor Raises Number of iPhone Manufacturing Contracts to 17 Million
      If this is true and demand stays high......AAPL will see $200 within a year IMO.
      However, I'll be setting my trailing-stop-limit-or... just in case there are any major dips.

      Any thoughts on when there might be a 2-for-1 split?
