Deflation: The Experts’ Latest Scare Tactic
When it comes to banks, the accounting rule "mark to market" has been suspended since April of 09 (called FAR 157 or something close to it). So, the true value of bank assets and their balance sheets are skewed a great deal because banks don't have to list assets at current value. This is masking deflationary information from reaching the masses in the hopes of things turning around. Without understanding how numbers are crunched, you'll get the wrong conclusion.
