This management continues to perform well. This stock with a dividend that now yields 3 pct will certainly be 100 dollars by year end assuming a 15.5 multiple on current earnings

  • Fair Value Puzzles: M&T Bank Acquires Wilmington Trust [View article]
This is why I have great confidence in M and T. Briar's comments are quite correct regarding "mark to market " accounting. Value is quite a different thing for a going concern versus one that is not. I presume that M and T, as a going concern, can work their way through this and there will be additional earnings that will drop to the bottom line. They have proven that in their own businesses, and in acquired businesses. One size does not fit all!!

  • The Berkshire-Buffett Bailout [View article]
So let's see that "bad investment" was in a company whose stock went from 29 to 89 in the period. It continued to earn money and pay a dividend as well. It took Provident off the hands of the federal government making their depositors whole!! This is a well run company that was forced to take the 600 mio and inherited the Provident Tarp funds and quite rightly is waiting to see what ridiculous new capital rules will be imposed, meanwhile they are earning and retaining 150 mio per quarter which will allow them to pay back the money with interest. We should be carrying this management around on our shoulders rather than having this poor excuse for a journalist taking ignorant cheap shots.
