  • 4 Terrific Reasons Alcoa's Outstanding Run Will Continue [View article]
    Why? It's up over 2% at mid-day.

  • Whisper Number Impact: How Will Pfizer's Stock Move After Earnings? [View article]
I think it has to do with whether the street likes a stock or doesn't at the current time, a conglomerate of optimism and pessimism. When Alcoa missed its numbers last quarter it took a dip and the very next day started a 70% run-up because there's a heck of a lot of investors that remember the 4 times this was a $40 stock. PFE is out of favor right now so to answer your question, it follows the old adage, "Buy on the rumor, sell on the news."

You think Feuerstein is bad, what about Jim Cramer? A person could get rich doing the opposite of what he says. Yet year after year people listen to him and watch him on TV. I don't get it.

  • 4 Terrific Reasons Alcoa's Outstanding Run Will Continue [View article]
Someone told me once that it doesn't matter how right you are, if you fight the market you're going to lose. The market is driving AA relentlessly up. Come up with all the reasons you want that AA shouldn't have hit a 52 week high today, but it did. When AA hits 40 you can tell me all the bad news. When double average volume drives the stock up almost 3% in one day, I'm thinking either a hell of lot of people know something I don't or this stock is seriously overbought.

From what I can see the CEO's sale of 13M made the stock go up, not down. Of course I am just an amateur. Oink.

Talk about confused, I read this on SA and on Yahoo! I read "Puma Shares Soar."

4 times in the past 14 years this was a $40 stock. Who wants to bet against AA at less than $17? I don't. I've been long since $11.50 and wish I had gotten in sooner.

Personally, I'm reluctant to be critical of people like Elizabeth Warren. She's kind of the opposite of Bush the Idiot Son and his Republican pals. They took the DOW from 14,000 to 6,500. A little sanity in D.C. from time to time isn't such a bad thing.

  • Alcoa beats estimates, stabilizing aluminum prices continue to help results [View news story]
A lot of knowledgeable people had very good reasons why AA wouldn't get passed 13 and was poised to fall back to 10. One thing that never works well is fighting the market. There's going to be a lot of smiles on the investors who are long AA.

  • Briefly On Pfizer: It's Time To Buy [View article]
Are there two Caterpillars and you're talking about some other CAT? How do you lose money on a stock that's at it's all-time high? Short it? Maybe you lost opportunity because the stock's been stagnant for 2 1/2 years but even then the dividend's not bad. You want to complain about a dog, how about GE? What if you were long a $60 stock stagnant in the mid $20s?

  • Analysts applaud Alcoa's further expansion downstream, but shares flat [View news story]
Am I reading this right? AA is at 14.95 and USB raises it price target from 13.50 to 15.00? How much do these people get paid to be top analysts at the most prestigious brokerages? How could we live without them?

Everything you say may be true but it's worth noting that it was the previous CEO that acquired Wyeth, not the current CEO.

  • General Electric: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly Truth [View article]
Is there anything more aggravating than the good old boy (or girl) network to people that actually have to work for a living? We all get up every morning and go to work and do the best job we can and if we screw up we get nailed. If Andrea Jung screws up she winds up on the GE board. Have you ever seen what the perks are to being on the board of a large U.S. corporation? Those perks are a direct expense to the stockholders. And for what? So Ms. Jung can bring the same vision, wisdom, business acumen, and leadership to GE that she brought to Avon? There should not be two sets of rules. Who nominated and elected her to the board? Immelt should have his pants pulled down and be spanked at the annual meeting.

Bourbeau, I too question this "excellent management team." Excellence can have many metrics; a company could have excellent products, or customer service, or employee loyalty, or profits, or margins, etc. However, from an investor's standpoint, I can't find a better way to measure excellence than by share price and dividend because that's where the rubber meets the road.

It's amusing to me that there's a million investors out there with half a million excuses for GE's share price, always expecting a bucket of gold at the end of the rainbow. Now the DOW is at record highs with GE at a fraction of its record high. It's going to be a tough job to catch up before this bull market ends, and then GE's climb back up will be even harder.
