Seeking Contrarian Value In Brazil: Does Banco Bradesco Represent Value? [View article]
Bradesco's trailing 12-month yield is considerably better than .70% (which is the figure Yahoo finance erroneously gives). During the last 12 months, total dividends come to over 45 cents, which gives a yield of about 3% at Friday's close of $15.70.
Gazprom doesn't even pretend that it's going to maintain its dividend if their EPS falls. However, they will pay a better dividend than they have for most of the 2000s; they've got a new dividend policy instituted more or less at the orders from the Russian government, and that is to pay out a quarter of their after-tax profits every year. Russia now expects this from all state-controlled publically listed companies, so Rosneft will do that as well; Sberbank apparently is trying to resist and has only agreed to pay out 15%.
"Jim Cramer likes the stock. What does that mean..?? It means that a REAL smart/successful analyst who has never recommended a DUD is recommending buying VALE..."
Actually, it means that the dart-throwing monkey who recommended Bear Stearns in early 2008 is now recommending Vale.

I suspect Rosneft needs the approval of a general meeting to pay out dividends, so just the say-so of its majority owner may not be enough. However, they could easily call an extraordinary general meeting, get the approval stamp for an additional dividend there, and be done with it. That, of course, means a delay of several weeks because you can't just schedule a GM for tomorrow.
"Cutting its dividend in half versus the second half of 2011, Sinopec is trading at a multiple of 8.3 carrying a 3.3% yield."
No. The dividend paid out in the fall is the interim dividend, which is always smaller than the final dividend they pay out in the spring. This time, they kept it stable at 0.10 RMB/share (which for those of us receiving it in USD or EUR actually means a rise compared to 2011, thanks to a stronger yuan).

If you look at the company's history, Exxon has split its share when it has reached or is in imminent danger of reaching $100. They have about 15% to go. Chevron has split its stock once after the merger of the old Chevron and Texaco, and that was also when stock price hit $100. They're well above that mark now.
Actually, it's not a report but a transcript. If you listen to it on the company's web page, it's pretty obvious that it's just the written version of the simultaneous interpretation of Mr. Ferreira's original presentation. Yeah, it's a bit rough (as simultaneous intepretation always is), but it _is_ intelligible -- or at least more intelligible than the Portuguese original.

For me, Brazil takes no withholding taxes on dividends, but they do take a 15% cut if the company pays out 'interest on own capital', like Brazilian banks do. AFAIK, unlike dividends, the company can deduct that in its own taxes, so in a sense it evens out.
