Why GM's Wagoner and Not BofA's Lewis? [View article]
The American people were calling for someone's head and the guy with the short straw was Wagoner -- it's a dirty job but someone had to do it. He won't suffer, his golden parachute is fully expanded. As for Lewis and the other bank CEOs, they also need to be fired and if their boards won't do it, maybe the President will.

The windfall profits tax that was passed by the Carter administration back in the 70's wasn't terribly popular either and it DID squelch exploration and investment. However, the rhetoric is good and Cohen is right -- with the current fever of wealth redistribution, the argument for the WFP tax may win the day. There is a finite amount of oil and as we use it up, it's going to become more costly, especially if there's no exploration going on, that's just basic economics. The answer is simple -- pay more, or do without. A WFP tax isn't going to fix it.

Oh, please. This isn't the whole story -- retention bonuses for people who took advantage of the ridiculous environment on Wall Street to make money from bogus CDS. Sorry -- no sale here! The bonuses should go back, after all, it's taxpayers money and the company is now 80% owned by the government.
It's a game of smoke and mirros -- diversion of attention from the real problem. Yes, the country is in an uproar over the bonuses and rightly so. But the real problem is how we got here and what we need to do to get out of this mess AND fix it so it doesn't happen again.

YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!! One of the guys that helped to cause this mess is now supposed to be telling us how to get out? Well, I guess it does make some kind of lop-sided sense -- (heavy emphasis on lop-sided).

The boomer crisis article is well written and very interesting. I liken it to the Apocalypse 2012 phenomenon. If you haven't read it, do so -- it is chilling.

I just renewed my second radio subscription for two years. I don't llisten to the high-paid guys like Stern, but I wonder if NFL, Nascar and MLB will be dropped?
Did I miss the point here? A couple of years ago when oil was still in the $40 range, the oil companies were a pretty fair investment, slow-growth, but paying divi's. After a year of record oil prices and a return to previous levels, why "hard choices?" When you make less, you spend less -- DUH! There will continue to be expenditures for exploration but bonues and high dividends must go!
I was shocked when I heard the excuse from an interview on NPR, that these bankers "need" their millions to pay for the lifestyle they've committed to -- they need this money to pay their bills. WHUT??? I live in TX and we pay a LOT less in bills than $500K. I agree with Tim, if it costs that much to live in Manhattan, move somewhere else.

You are soooooo right! My car was damaged in an accident and I'm driving a rental WITHOUT SATRAD - it's horrible, just horrible! My skin crawls everytime a flurry of (shudder) commercials come on. The DJ's and their inane laughlines are turning my hair gray! ARGHHHH! Sirius, I'm sorry for everything bad I ever said about you. I really miss you!
