Apple has good equipment. It is more expensive and you are captive to what Apple deems that you may want or need, which they have done a good job of for neophytes. However, if you want value and to be able to pick from multiple hardware sources, Apple is not the answer.

Congratulations! Apple. You are off to a very good start. Couldn't help but notice that the iPhone also requires the unit be sent to Apple to install a new battery. For a mere $80.00 you get a new $20 battery installed for you - just like the ipod! They do know how to make money.

Could it be that Apple is heading off criticism they received on the Ipod when the only way a battery could be replaced is to send to Apple along with $125. Most other MP3 players will play generic MP3 files and you can replace the battery for about $20 without sending it into the manufacturer. Havn't heard how much the battery replacement is for the iPhone.

Congratulations to Apple, the company that once had 100% of the personal computer market and took it down to near zero due to their closed system and arrogance. Now it appears that if they work hard they may get back to a 5% share of market. But it looks like they are more interested in becoming a consumer electronics supplier - forget about the computers, they are only a link to the web.

The reason that Jobs has not been singled out is "arrogance" this is an embedded Jobs characteristic and a trait of the entire Apple organization from the beginning. What other PC company went from 100% SOM to nearly zero and now back to 4-5%. Jobs has clearly shown genius in product definition and marketing but this does not excuse the arrogance of illegally backdating stock options. His life long affair with arrogance may bring him down this time.
