  • Should Tim Cook Ask WWJD (What Would Jobs Do)? [View article]
    What would Jobs Do?

I am guessin he would would have a long string of insults for all the handwringers and speculators. He would probably tell them he #$#%# knew what he was doing when he hired Cook and set up the company how he liked it before he died. He knew he was dying and wouldn't #$#%# do anything that would harm his legacy far out in the future. He would also tell them that no other company has changed the way we do things with insanely great products. No other company has the track record Apple has. No other company has the customer loyalty Apple has. No other company is positioned in the spaces that Apple is in. He would tell them that Apple has never been Wall Street's monkey, either people believe in the company or they do not. If they cannot wait for excellent products when they are ready, they do not know Apple nor do they understand technology, and they probably shouldn't be investing in technology.

What would Steve Jobs do? Make insanely great products people love and ignore people who think they know better than a company that has been enormously successful.

    Am I wrong?

  • Apple's Growing Slice Of The Enterprise Market Should Offset Other Concerns [View article]
Somewhere on this board I have argued the same thing -- Apple is becoming the choice of businesses. When businesses big and small consider the Total Cost of Ownership of Mac's vs. any other platform, you are going to see more and more enterprise MACs. In my experience working in companies and universities with Macs is that we have far more problems with the PCs. Mac users always had problems with the printers, while PC users had to defrag, reboot, download drivers, clean viruses and trojan horses, deal with slowness, reinstall the OS, and etc.

The resistance you hear are from those who stake their livelihoods on being PC experts. IT departments go with what they know so they pick PCs because they are comfortable with them and are used to the downtime and fixing stuff. They simply do not understand that users need to get stuff done and want their computers to just work. I want a coffee break because I finished my tasks, not because I am waiting for IT to fix my computer or miss a coffee break because I have to fix it.

My Mac at home and at Work just work. Macs let you focus on your work. I am simply able to get more stuff done with Macs than PCs. So if any business is looking to get computers I would without question tell them to become a mac house if they want higher productivity and less downtime.

  • Apple Uniquely Positioned To Cash In On Android [View article]
I had buyers remorse as soon as I bought 40 shares and dumped them today even though I did not make much. Being a former Blackberry user and feeling that they may have a chance redefine themselves in a good way. They did everything possible to screw up their launch didnt bode well.

  • Is Apple The 2000 Cisco/Microsoft Of Today? [View article]
Netflix is good, but we suspect Comcast has been overselling bandwidth and sometimes is it difficult to get through a movie without having to reboot the router or just pause for a bit and try to resume watching. I bought an episode off Amazon, but there were no formats for my Mac. There is probably an App I can download to watch it. I prefer itunes as it is more seamless. I am trying to convince my husband we need Hulu Plus because they have even more Criterion movies you can stream than we have in our DVD collection.

Sometimes we get our Prime shipments right away when it comes UPS but when it comes USPS or heaven forbid this certain courier it is anyone's guess. You can easily say that when you have free shipping you shouldn't be picky, but if your package gets lost it isn't free shipping is it?

They use a mixture of USPS, UPS, and this courier company which has lost our shipments as well as other maladies. As a long time customer and former associate since the middle 1990s, I have been shocked at the lack of quality of shipping.

Another thing to think about, it might be nothing, but iunless it is an ultra new book, I buy all my books at thriftbooks.com which is an online used book store where you can buy most books for 3.95 for free shipping and their shipping is much better. If you buy books from the same location you get 50 cents off the book price, plus they often have discount specials on top of the low prices. I used to buy 100% of my books from Amazon, but now it is about 5% of books.

What people forget is Amazon is starting to charge sales tax for various states including California. They dumped a lot of their associates because of this. Associates were people who drove traffic to their site for a small cut of sales. When people have to pay sales tax, they will have to think twice whether it is a better bet just buying locally.
Also, their shipping lately has been below par even for Prime customers. This will also be something to look at moving forward.

  • 4 February 'Feel Good' Factors For Apple Fanatics [View article]
Yes, a little girl playing "I'll be home for Christmas" on her ukulele for her grandfather was so smug and complacent. Playing "Heart and Soul" on an iPad and mini iPad is so smug and complacent.
What would Steve do? Stay Calm and make insanely great products.

I have been wanting to buy Apple for a long time, but I do not want to buy it at 650-700. I waited till it got under 500, so right now I have 10 at average of 472.00. I intend to be long Apple because it is a quality company that I believe in. Some people think short term, but I take the long view.

The bashing of Windows wouldn't have been so potent if the criticisms were not spot on.

I have worked at large companies that had both Macs and PCs and a dedicated IT department. I was responsible for major upgrade of 250 PCs that all needed various upgrades to prepare for a software and os upgrade for a transportation company. I was in charge of researching and setting up a brand new laptop pool for our company. I have also worked at a University computer labs. IT in any company is more than a glorified help desk, but research, dealing with vendors, troubleshooting networks, hardware, software, and planning for the future. It is not just taking user calls, but organizing employee training of systems.

Defense companies do not have to worry about the bottom line or productivity levels as companies in other categories do. There is productivity loss with PCs no matter what era you speak about. PCs do take more man hours to support than Macs and I do not care how big or small your company is. I have seen Macs and PCs work in real world situations in business.

Maybe because I was a contractor or not intent to making IT my ultimate career goal on many of these projects, it was in my interest to set up systems that would benefit the company in terms of TCO and not to support the need for a continued large IT department. The end user was also my client, I do not like seeing users dependent on calling IT. I want people to be productive so they can get their work done and go home and have a life. As an end user, I hate being dependent on IT to get me back up running (fortunately I know enough to get myself up running, but sometimes because of protocol I have had to wait for someone). I want to focus on my work. I can focus on my work with a Mac.

I am not sure if you can say most IT professional prefer windows for their devices because they have data that it is superior or because it is just what they are used to. Having been an IT professional for years supporting both platforms, I can tell you Macs were more stable and PC/Windows took more man hours to support. There is also data to support that the TCO or Total Cost of Ownership. Perhaps IT professionals like it because it guarantees job security, but those of us who have moved up from IT appreciate being able to be more productive and focused in our new jobs. I paid my dues in IT, do not want to have to have to do it on my free time or when I am working on projects. Scientists, artists, writers, business people, and people from all walks of life use Apple because of quality, stability, superior customer service without needing to support and IT guy.

I posted something to this effect on another thread. I am already seeing small businesses turning into MAC houses, even software development and financial companies. When take a look a the TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) Macs make more sense for companies just the way they are. I think that people stick on the initial purchase price without understanding the cost over time to support a pool of PC based products. Macs have proven themselves for years in large scale in educations. Educational institutions save money from having to spend so much on IT.

  • Apple's Brand-Image Matters More Than Innovation [View article]
Actually, the Samsung commercials will backfire. Samsung's advertising are mean-spirited and turn off people who they should be luring away. The commercial where a man and woman are trying out their Samsung phones the company bought them shows that Samsung users are sexist and pretty unpleasant, and unproductive people. They are entranced by the bells-and-whistles but do not really get anything done. These commercials give no one a reason to be a part of this supposedly too hip and snarky for you group of users. I have had a long discussion with people who were not even Apple users who were extremely offended by the commercial on all sorts of levels. It portrayed the woman as an idle, idea stealing, unpleasant woman. It portrayed the men as part of a men's club that would dump work on this unpleasant woman. All of the people were unprofessional and unproductive.

Much of the Samsung ads are at the level of Junior Highschool kids trying too hard to be hip and prove themselves. Apple users are not the clueless people who they portray us to be. Apple users are successful in many fields.

I do not mind Samsung making fun of Apple users, as much as that they portray their own users as so unpleasant and seem to hold them in contempt to show them as backstabbing, boastful, mean, and unproductive. In fact, recently I noticed the commercial I am talking about was edited to show the guys to have already planning to have lunch so it doesn't seem so sexist.

I am not sure if Samsung deserves the loyalty that its users are trying to project. I do not think that Samsung is going to win any converts with their campaign.

The reason MacWorld is not as big is because 2009 was the last year Apple showed up to MacWorld. MacWorld has been a shell of its former self. There is this thing called the Internet where you can find out every new product and app you want. There is social media that replaces people having to get together and meet. Conferences in general are getting less and less attended these days. Conferences are not what they used to be in the 1990s. The ROI at conferences generally are suspect. Apple knows how to do product announcements and releases without MacWorld.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Cramer's show is like PeeWee's Playhouse for investors. He is not an advisor, he is not a journalist, but an entertainer of sorts. In March 2009, Jon Stewart kind of breaks it down while Cramer watched.

You should watch the entire interview because I think that it is not only network news that fails us as citizens, but financial news as investors. I especially like the clip Jon shows about how Cramer would talk down Apple stock.
