  • Russia: Buying Twice The Growth For Half The Price [View article]
Enron was once a success story too, as well as Bernie Madoff's fund. Always remember the fine print "Past performance cannot be used to predict future returns". Take care.

Of the more fresh developments: December shit from Barron's http://bit.ly/GXpB1U
finally hit the fan in Russia. Shuvalov is now widely discussed in Russian blogs and what is left of the free media. And fiercly defended by fellow bureaucrats, naturally.

Still the mere fact that this story was allowed to go public in Russia could mean that Putin is rotating the more obnoxious members of the crew into oblivion.

I'm sitting in the front row with my cola and popcorn, the show must go on. Enjoy your Russian investments ^^.

The Transneft case is pretty clear from my point of view, the company is plagued with contract kickbacks and preferred treatment of insiders as compared to other shareholders. It is most probably you don't follow the discussions in Russian that you consider these problems to be minor.

This does not mean that there is any special spite towards foreign shareholders of course - it is that all minority shareholders suffer discrimination and have defacto next to none rights in Russia, especially when it concerns large startegic ventures like Gazprom

Perhaps you should look into the story of minority shareholder Alexey Navalny battling in court with state-owned Transneft for the right to read corporate information. He owned some preferred stock of Transneft and requested information from investor relations of the company. Namely, he was interested in large charity donations to obscure foundations run by former state officials.
After he was denied flat he went to court and started his own investigation. Now he is running a database on corporate and state corruption, the biggest in Russia. see http://rospil.info (Russian)

  • OpenTable: Where's the Beef? [View article]
It was recently pointed out seekingalpha.com/artic... that huge overvaluation itself does not mean that a stock will begin its freefall the next few days or weeks. Normally I would expect a major downslide to start either on some really bad corporate news or an overall bearish market mood of which none are present atm. Add here the QE2 money supply, a herd of burned shorts covering on every downswing of the stock and there is little chance that these overblown valuations will drop before summer. Today is not short time, to sum it up.
That being said my overall opinion is that no one in his right mind should be long OPEN before it drops at least 7-10 fold, or more.

No way. That would be paying about $600 per subscriber, just throwing money away.

Recent events (I mean the departure of the CFO and Cramer's "sell half") could become a turning point and the general public could finally realise that they are paying $180 for something worth $50-40 at best.
I hope this fine article acts as a cold shower for the optimists out there.

Thank you for the insight, it is nice to see that there are other fans of WWAY out there. I have discovered the stock for myself back in June and have been buying the common and warrants all the way down. By my own estimates the common is worth at least $6.50 if the current volume of business operation holds steady, the classic example of Mr.Market being overcautious and staying away from stuff no one is touting.
Today's news about the credit facility and expansion plans add to my optimism about WWAY, a lot.

    Disclosure: Long WWAY and WWAYW
