You are also confusing IB's options volume share with their options market-making volume. The two are barely related in IB's world. You can credit most of that volume to the routing technology and ISE access through that technology. It does not correlate to any market-making (internally) in their options business. I have been a customer for a long time because I value the multi-currency capability but this is not new and it is targeted at a very few select channels/demographics. Hence their customer service is among the worst. They want experienced traders with an above average understanding of the technology. Think about that hurdle when you compare to TD Ameritrade or eTrade - and their approach to the broader trading demographic. That is no simple change!
