  • Why Microsoft Should Not Consider Buying BlackBerry [View article]
Microsoft may want it just to prevent Google from getting it. That would be another kick by Google at Microsoft territory. A strong position in the enterprise market is worth a lot of cash to Google.

  • Digging Into BlackBerry's Cash: Things Are Not As Well As They Seem [View article]
Markpriest, I hear what you are saying but don't think it is that easy. They always have to spend money on marketing. Otherwise the whole ship will sink faster.

My suggestion to the list is to go hard after the Point of Sale. Give every sales rep a free phone for selling 10 phones. This targets a few key areas...

    1. iPhone is easy to sell so reps push them and don't ask questions. They move quickly on to the next sale. This gets reps talking BlackBerry.

    2. When they start talking BlackBerry they get familiar with BlackBerry.

    3. It starts getting BlackBerry in the street. If a rep pumps it up, the customer pumps it up.

    4. It’s not a bad return on investment.

Who cares what they do with the phone after, you taught them how to sell BlackBerry.

You will need a BlackBerry if you are in the European Union and don't want the Americans spying on you.

Sony sounds like a likely thing to happen with a former CEO of Sony Ericsson on the Board of Directors. At a minimum for Japan to start.

    Great article. Thank you.

Look for more revenue to come from a Visa - BBM deal.

  • BlackBerry: Why We Are Not Selling Our Shares [View article]
Now that people are flocking to the Nok bandwagon, does anyone have the numbers on their turn around.

If BBRY had a gain of 15% on the quarter, how does that fair in comparison to when Nok sales bottomed out? Then what happened in the next quarter or two?

Furthermore, if BBRY has a 15% improvement on the quarter with limited advertising and limited Q10 sales, can we foresee a 15% gain next quarter? If so, what point do they need to hit to start showing profits? I don't know the answer, but I thought Chris Umi of Crackberry was talking about it. Chris, if you are there, perhaps you can help?

  • BlackBerry: Bad Results Made Worse By Poor Presentation [View article]
rtmunro, cheap shots are coming fast and furious over the last week. But they are coming from all sides. Mostly the shorts so I can see why Gwynfryn is bothered.

That being said, we likely would have gloated if it had of gone the other way. So what can we do about human nature?

Andy, deep down I think you are right. If you notice, it's the shorts that are calling for him to go the most.

We really don't know the whole story, was he told to announce the playbook and bb7 news then? Some of the other issues, he definitely botched, but then the expectations were obviously above results. No father likes to disappoint his children, even when he told them what to expect in the first place.

Thank you Jaberwock. I have been thinking about this constantly trying to figure things out. Fortunately, I am in a positive position at the moment, so I am mad, but not furious as I can imagine some people are.

I think one thing that has happened for sure is that the shorts have taken advantage of the bad day the longs have had. You can tell the emotion in the shareholders (I also feel it). It is not that hard for the shorts to prey on our emotions at this time.

The best way to keep a man down is to keep on kicking him while he is down.

I am not telling anyone to buy sell or hold as this is a risky stock. I myself am holding on for another quarter. This is the point where everyone is selling and the smart ones are buying. This is also the point that the management has hit the wall of adversity. If they come out of this, we can make some nice gains. If not, I can handle a drop from $10 to $7.

A lot of people have commented as to the lack of advertising. My assumption is that they knew they would be wasting money (ie Superbowl) by advertising before the Q10 is released in the US. Now you should see a barrage of ads. If we don't, then look out.

We should also see regular updates of fortune 500 companies and DOD soon.

Bottom line, I think the risk is a 25 % loss, but the gains of 50%+ are still there, just not as soon as we expected.

Oneinfiniteloop, you are right. They needed the full touch. I was one of the torch users that was about to switch to iPhone if the full touch didn't come. I waited and was rewarded with the z10. I am pretty sure I wasn't alone.

Kunarooney wrt breaking the duopoly, I don't see that the vendors are trying. I think they made it really hard for BlackBerry. Most haven't even seen the os update yet.

So why wouldn't they put more effort into breaking the duopoly? Surely this would give them more strength in negotiating.

I only have a small fraction of my contacts on BBM. It played no part in my decision. The phone, hub, peak, flow and security were at the top of my list. Apps played no part. However BlackBerry has all the apps that I needed so far.
