  • Axion Power Concentrator 402: August 1, 2015 [View instapost]
I'll go ahead and leave another post as it does make it easier to follow this thread, but I really am getting tired of the same people bashing the same people, over and over again. I think we who read this thread have gotten the message. Would it be possible to stop all this bashing and begin to post meaningful things?

I think i will wait at least until after the next reverse split before re-establishing any position in AXPW. And maybe not even then.

  • How Risky Is Prospect Capital? Part 1 [View article]
I'd say all but the first one you listed. I owned PSEC for over two years and went through two dividend cuts, probably the leading cause of the stock price dropping so quickly. I sold out the last of my PSEC this spring and bought more MAIN. I didn't buy MAIN at the years lows but by buying the dips, I am currently sitting at about a 3% capital gain, plus have a lot more faith in the dividends continuing at present level and likely rising.

I am more like Guardian, above, in that I want to reduce my speculative plays. I still have a few, mainly in mining and oil related stocks, but most of them are also paying at least a small dividend, so the stock price being down results in DRIPing giving more shares.

  • A High-Yield, Low-Price Stock That's Traded In A Tight Range For 5 Years Is Great For My Immediate Income Stream [View article]
$5 adds up if you buy very many. I prefer to put my money into utility funds like DNP and may even buy more GUT since it seems to be getting punished for too high of a premium over its NAV and showing up with a lower share price. I think I feel safer as we may be heading into untested waters for investments having my money in a basket of stocks with funds that have a good history of getting through downturns. Both pay monthly dividends. I'd collect this quarter's divy tomorrow and then bail out of FTR.

  • Main Street Capital Corporation A Safer BDC To Hold [View instapost]
I grew tired of seeing my capital decrease with PSEC while at the same time the dividend also went down. I've dumped all PSEC shares and moved my BDC money into MAIN. When the now seemingly regular special dividends, like the $0.275 per share paid 6/25, are taken into account, the dividend isn't much lower and I'd rather see my shares increase in value rather than go down. Had I held my PSEC longer I might have not lost as much money or maybe even made a little, but my loss wasn't bad and I feel more confident it will increase with MAIN. I guess it is one of those I now sleep better things.

  • I Would Avoid DNP Select Income Fund At The Present Time [View article]
I bought DNP for its dividend and the fantastic record of reliably paying that dividend. The spread between high and low share price over the last year isn't very high (I started buying it within that year) and my average share price is right about where the share price is now. The drop in NAV is a bit concerning but as you said, it has been at a higher premium in the past. I also have GUT and the premium is even higher there. DNP is a very large fund and I feel that it is a reliable dividend payer. If the share price drops, I'll consider it a good time to buy more shares.

I went to Al's report and posted the following question there. I'll also ask it here since we may have a different audience:

Okay, so why couldn't this LCB agreement have been done a year or two ago and avoided the subsequent financial rape of Axion stock price, if Dr. Gesang actually has been in the picture that long?

Hmm, I gave up and sold all my 1305 shares at .035 on 5/13 at a loss since my average cost was .19. I should have held off until at least today, then I'd have actually made a profit.

So will the expected $20M over two years eliminate another round of the terrible financing we have experienced over the last couple of years? Will that money be enough to keep the ship afloat without any more income from new shares?

That sounds good, but be sure to include all the information that Axion is sending out for investors about how the company is doing. Oh wait, there is no info on that. Never mind, just drop most of the charts at the beginning.

  • Triangle Capital (TCAP) My New BDC [View instapost]
I also have been backing off from PSEC but I sold all shares just after the May ExDiv date, at a slight loss. I have been moving my PSEC money into MAIN, which has a lower yield than PSEC but when you factor in the seemingly "regular" twice a year special dividends it is a bit over 8% and I feel my capital is a lot more secure.

This is becoming my year to dump loser stocks. I want to try to keep my dividend yield respectable but also to minimize capital loss. And as an old retired guy I still like utilities.

  • Silver Is Shaping Up To Be The Best Precious Metal Play Of The Decade [View article]
Good article. I regularly buy silver coins from the US Mint and have held some shares of Hecla Mining for a few years. I have also been accumulating shares of the iShares silver mining ETF (SLVP) that I can buy through Fidelity with no commission charge so it works even to buy a few shares at a time. I bought a few more today and will continue to do so whenever I have a few extra dollars and/or the share price drops below $9. On today's dip it was $8.72 when I bought.
