  • Intel's Mobile Revenue Plummets  [View article]
I am not understanding your figures. For example how much of the $929 million loss is R&D which Intel does not disclose? I would assume that R&D is quite heavy compared to MCG revenues. R&D is a benefit to future periods therefore not a cost of current production. I think it is way to early to take the count to 10. Intel's core business is not going to hades in a hand basket and the drive to lower cost chips in time could prove successful. Intel just added to Q2 revenue guidance and it looks like to me the June quarter should come in at around 48 cents up from 43 cents.

  • Earnings Preview: Intel Corp. 3Q 2013  [View article]
"59% they referred to in the transcript they forecast for the FULL YEAR. "

You do realize that 59% is spread over 4 quarters, Q113 at 56% and Q213, 58%. The final quarter would then come in at 61% which of course is guidance and that may change. It appears to me that Intel has a good chance of beating the analyst expected numbers this quarter and hopefully it may mean upward revision in margins. Intel also is about to launch into 14nm meaning that margins next should hopefully be consistent and in keeping with historically reduced ASPs.

  • Earnings Preview: Intel Corp. 3Q 2013  [View article]
Transcript? No, Intel's Q2 Earnings Report guidance for this quarter is clearly 61%. The following is a statement from Intel's 10Q for Q2 2013. GM in Q2 was 58%.

"Our Q3 2013 gross margin percentage is expected to be three percentage points higher when compared to Q2 2013 as our next-generation Intel®  Atom™ processor-based SoC for tablets (code-named “Bay Trail") are expected to qualify for sale resulting in lower non-qualified product costs. In addition, we expect higher platform volume, higher sell-through of previously non-qualified units, and lower factory start-up costs in Q3 2013."

  • Avoid Intel, Buy Qualcomm Instead? - Part 1  [View article]
"In the Intel-dominated market, Advanced Micro is expected to gain this market share by producing chips to meet the customer's demand, something Intel doesn't do."

Are you sure about that? Don't forget that old adage " A fool and his are soon parted"!

  • Intel's Total Earnings Are Falling Faster Than Meets The Eye  [View article]
I am not willing to accept the generalization that computers are becoming niches. I know only a few people that have tablets and they hardly use them at all. My feeling is that economy world over is stagnant and computers are presently not in favor. But cheap tablets are selling. However the $700 iPad started the tablet craze but prices have deflated since then reflective of world economic malaise. Intel is concentrating on future mobile devices but only as an accretion to its traditional markets. The past quarter Intel met expectations and the full year will not be a disaster. Next year will bring new products and 14nm production. We shall see.

  • Intel's Total Earnings Are Falling Faster Than Meets The Eye  [View article]
Well wait for next week's earnings report. Intel did not revise the quarter's guidance downward so there should not be any major surprises. Analysis calls for cuts made shortly before earning announcements are suspect and should taken with a grain of salt. Investor's should have a longer view.

  • Screenshots of the next version of Windows 8 (MSFT), codenamed Blue, have leaked. Features include smaller live tiles, more Snap View options, and various UI tweaks meant to make the OS more touch-friendly. Separately, CNET reports Blue will feature power-saving tech meant to work with Intel's (INTC) Haswell CPUs. Intel has promised Haswell will deliver major power savings relative to Ivy Bridge, and has mandated all Haswell ultrabooks sport touchscreens. Blue is expected later this year, and reportedly is the start of a shift to an annual Windows update cycle.  [View news story]
If I owned a stock with a PE of 72 I think I might be a little bit concerned with the likelihood that another company is about to unleash project deep dive on my company's stock price.

  • Like clockwork, IDC's PC shipment forecasts keep falling while its tablet forecasts keep rising. Following weak February Chinese sales, the research firm thinks global Q1 shipments could see a double-digit Y/Y drop, worse than a prior forecast for a 7.7% decline. It also thinks Q2 shipments could see a mid-single-digit drop ahead of a possible 2H recovery (made easier by favorable Y/Y comps). Two weeks ago, IDC forecast full-year shipments would drop 1.3%, which itself was worse than a prior outlook for a 2.8% increase.  [View news story]
Intel did not change guidance and now is in the quiet period. How is it assumed that tablets continue to rise in this time frame? Cheap is the current vogue and tablets sales appear to be heavily relegated to the low profit cheap ticket market. Haswell should come out in June and new exciting form factors coming the remainder of this year which will put further pressure on tablet prices. One might look at the success of the Microsoft Surface Pro for a clue.

  • Businesses are unlikely to adopt Windows 8 (MSFT) in large numbers before next summer, says Dell (DELL) CFO Brian Gladden, as they wait for kinks to be ironed out. It's not uncommon for businesses to take a cautious approach to a new OS, but Gladden's remarks carry additional weight in light of Intel CEO Paul Otellini's rumored comments (later called "unsubstantiated" by Intel), and existing worries about poor enterprise Windows 8 adoption.  [View news story]
"Paul Otellini is on record as saying ‘Windows 8 is one of the best things that ever happened to Intel"

That's right and it seems to get lost in all the discussions. It also seems more important to me for Windows 8 to drive the consumer market first where Intel is facing intrusion from tablets and smartphones then spillover to the enterprise market.

  • Caris has downgraded Intel (INTC) to Above Average from Buy, and lowered its target to $26 from $29. Weak PC growth is the firm's unsurprising reason. Intel is off just slightly premarket - following the stock's selloff and plenty of other critical analyst reports, not to mention Intel's warning, the Street is taking Caris' move in stride.  [View news story]
Intel in the past when announcing a change in the quarter's guidance usually guided down and therefore actual earnings should beat the changed guidance. Nothing assured of course and it may have more to do with general economic conditions. But Intel is also in a transition period and one could expect that sales would reflect this.I mean if I were about to buy a computer would I buy it now?
