  • Healthy round of price hikes from Chipotle [View news story]
Exactly. This will hurt Chipotle's margins. The core menu items are actually a pretty good value, but $2 for a side of guacamole and $2 for a medium soda? No thanks. I order a drink basically everywhere I go except for Chipotle.

It's strange and makes no sense, I admit, but I would rather pay $8 for a burrito and $1 for a drink than pay $7 for a burrito and $2 for a drink.

  • Why Buying Beats Audio Is A Good Deal For Apple [View article]
I have been seeing multiple reports that Beats' streaming music licenses cannot be transferred to Apple with this acquisition. It seems nobody knows for sure, but usually those kinds of licenses cannot be transferred.

  • Facebook/WhatsApp/Ascenta Combo Is Ready To Make Wireless Carriers Obsolete [View article]
Did you read the article? The drones are a potential new means of spectrum delivery - one that doesn't require the carriers.

I trust Facebook with my data much more than I trust the NSA.

  • The Amazon Fire TV Can Burn Down Apple TV, Roku And Chromecast [View article]
You didn't even mention the lack of Vudu and all of the sports packages (MLB.tv, NBA, etc.). As a chord-cutter, I am qualified to say that while Fire TV is a good start, it is missing some really important apps.

It's a good first version, and will probably sell pretty well, but it's not even close to a category killer.

  • Open Letter To Satya Nadella, Microsoft CEO: Buy T-Mobile And Change The Game [View article]
I would prefer they buy Adobe first, but this is an interesting idea. My expectation is it would be too difficult to navigate the relationships with current manufacturers selling phones through T-Mobile, but a great CEO could probably pull it off.

  • Mark Zuckerberg, The Warren Buffett Of Technology? [View article]
Did you even read the commentary from Zuckerberg or the founders of Oculus? They address almost everything you are complaining about. This deal isn't about social networks or gaming. It is about connecting people 5-10 years from now in an amazing new way. Gaming is just the market that will drive the technology in the early years.

Imagine if you could put on a headset and have a courtside view at an NBA game. Imagine if your elderly parent was too sick to attend your child's wedding, but by putting on a headset in a nursing home, she could basically experience the wedding as if she was really there. Imagine a deployed solider being able to put on a headset and "be home" for just a few precious hours. The potential uses for this technology are incredible.

Does this help Facebook stock in the next quarter? Or ten? I doubt it. But it is time to stop thinking about Facebook as just a social network. Perhaps we should refer to it as Facebook Technologies now.

  • Facebook Deal: The Worst Since Countrywide Financial [View article]
There is a gigantic difference between putting ads on Whatsapp and using the information within Whatsapp to sell better/targeted/more expensive ads on Facebook.

Keep in mind, Facebook now has even more information that Google can't search with its algorithms.

  • The Future Of Mobile Payments: Part II [View article]
Great point. And it raises the question, why wouldn't the banks just release their own mobile payment apps?

  • The Future Of Mobile Payments: Part II [View article]
If you plan on doing a part three, it would be interesting to discuss Square, who is clearly a significant player in the mobile payments space.

Great article, but I don't see how you can leave out Square. I know they aren't publicly traded yet, but they have a significant presence in the market already.

  • GoPro confidentially files for IPO [View news story]
GoPro's branding is second to none. I know those other companies are making products, but there is virtually no competition in the mind of GoPro's target market.

  • Memo To Snapchat: Take The Facebook Money And Run [View article]
Instagram has started rolling out ads. I have seen some and they are pretty great ads, but that's just my opinion. At the same time, I have no idea how Snapchat plans to make money.

The question every needs to ask about Facebook is whether or not Facebook even needs teenagers anymore. Teenagers don't want a social network, they just want to communicate with friends, so it makes sense they wouldn't use Facebook very much. It's the age-old issue of "passing notes." Teenagers don't pass notes where their parents and other adults can read them. My guess is that eventually they will grow up and "come home" to Facebook where their families are. So far, no social network even comes close to Facebook in their ability to sell ads and actually make a profit.
