How about battery life and space inside the phone. It's plenty for Video Conferencing. if you want to take a good picture use the 18Mp rear facing

You target the user for your eco system. That's the reason why BB never took off on it's own. Weak ecosystem. Also may i remind you that apps are independent of their platforms

Google Android strategy is to make a market to get them on their platform. I don't think they make that much if anything from handsets. That's partially how they have been able to get a chunk of the market by not making money on it.

Well there's no comparison to the iphone since they are after Android user base. So what you have to compare it to are the other android makers. They are quite similar and have been in the ecosystem far longer than BBRY.

The way i see it, the inventory will have to go no matter what and instead of doing the firesale AFTER a flop, do it before to gain market share. the iphone was a terrible phone at the start but it's because people got on the platform.

499 unlocked is a good deal and they must still eeking a profit from that price point.

The price is going to play a big factor. Frankly the 800 range i am hearing will be too expensive for the regular android user. I wouldn't pay more than $500 un-subsidized for this phone. Google just released their Nexus 5 at $379 USD.

If they are smart about it they will get this device out there to regain market share and to get people back to using their paid services.

Security or no security the price point will be at the crux of the success of this device.

    I am long BBRY.

  • Time To Consider Going Long BlackBerry  [View article]
I must say that i've been Long BB for years and always liked their stuff. EXCEPT the apps issue and i think that it's where they messed up. People were infatuated with Apps at the time which was the beating drum.

Looking at the recent issues with Samsung (Payment system got hacked) and Apple (NUMEROUS software flops and now the battery issue) they should have no problem clawing back market share if the product is well received in the US.

  • BlackBerry's Smartphone OS Is Dead  [View article]
    -Cash flow positive? Check
    -Stock buy back? Check
    -Trimming the fat? Check
    -Debt financing? None
    -Money in the bank? Billions
    -Not alienating your existing userbase?Check
-Giving people a choice of OS? Check

I think the android move is to get people to use BB again and all the services while BB10 matures as it is still in its infancy phase compared to the competitors.

All in all, thank you for the dip today.

Agreed at 103 but it is still below the 30 and 100 day MA so technically still a buy at 109.

  • BlackBerry's Venice Android phone reportedly launching in November  [View news story]
BB Fan here still sporting a Bold and Curve. I liked BB10 and was pumped but i found it anti climactic when it came to using it. Business and personal profiles were nice but combersome at times. The interface was ok and it locked me out several times. Copy/paste drove me nuts half the time which was maybe due to precision. That said it's still a good OS and while it's in its infancy they should not abandon it, in fact management should put it in Skunk works mode and just let a few passionate people hone it while adapting it to the next tech. it could be the next silver bullet for sure, the potential is there.

  • The German Government Might Give An Unexpected Boost To BlackBerry  [View article]
    Great article George,

The main issue i have with this encrypted device when they say that no foreign intel agency has broken the encryption.

"So far, no foreign intelligence agency has succeeded in breaking the encryption on the phones, the German Interior Ministry claims."

1st, they would never actually tell them if they did break it in the 1st place.

2nd, the five-eyes has far more collective crypto experience and processing power to break this in my opinion.
