  • Enterprise Products Partners, Linn Energy: Petroleum Profits Without the Drama [View article]
I received distributions from LINE in my IRA for the last quarter of last year. Had I known that there was a $1000 limit on distributions and taxed under a concept called UBIT (Unrelated Business Income Tax,) I probably wouldn't have put 4640 units in that account. "Low and Behold" when Schwab figured out the taxes due, (they are the custodian of my IRA and are required to calculate and pay taxes due from that IRA,) I ended the year with about a $200 credit toward tax year 2009 and no taxes due for 2008. This was because LINE's distributions, at least the amount I received, were tax advantaged. I have no idea what will happen in 2009, in that account, but I am super happy with LINE's performance and payments to me both for those units and 17,000 more in my regular Schwab account. I bought all of those after reading about them in Neil George's Personal Finance letter. He even took a call from me once when I first started my purchases because at the time I thought the then 18-20% distributions were too good to be true. I wish I could afford to go on one of those investor boat trips with Neil George and friends but they are too expensive. cz

  • Who's Really to Blame for Rising Oil?  [View article]
Among other investments, I have 1.5 million dollars in energy exploration and production stocks. They are going up almost every day. I also have a 2000 Solara @ 23 mpg and a Ranger @ 17mpg. For now I drive the one most practical one for my activities, say a date or to haul some stuff around. BUT, I just put $99 dollars down with Roger Penske to order on of his SmartCars. 34-45mpg. I will integrate that into my driving. You peni riding in your dualies and SUV's have skrewed yourselves. Go file chapter 7.

  • Linn Energy: Better To Be an Employee Than a Shareholder? [View article]
Back in the 60s a bunch of bad guys who caused a lot of trouble at the Chicago Democratic Convention used the word "pig" to refer to businessmen. I wonder if Michael Linn remembers that.

  • Is OPEC Killing Itself? [View article]
Take a look who Chandler Lutz is by going to his web site. He is spouting of "all the crap you learned in high school." He is a naive child. He doesn't have a clue about Peak Oil and most likely believes that airplanes will fly using extension cords. Within the last 48 hours there was an article that Saudi Arabia will not be producing from some recently discovered resource areas so they plan to save the oil for future generations. In many areas of the world production is way down. For the past 5 years I have studied the energy industry, put my money where my mouth is and trippled my money. Chandler is not the only one with an advanced degree. He should go to work and sneak home for some afternoon delight as it looks quite lovely.
