global warming scam??
haha, you guys are hilarious. I wonder how many of you have a degree in any kind of science (no, political science doesnt count). Global Warming is no longer considered a 'debate' by anyone with half a brain and has been recognized by 99% of the world's top scientists/researchers... as fact. Our reaction to it, of course, is highly debatable but there remains no question that we are having a disproportionate and negative impact----btw, the whole "winters have been colder" argument just furthers the real tenant of global warming---it should be called "Global Climate Crisis" because while the core idea is that our globe is warming, that results in freezing temperatures for half the word as the polar caps melt and winds push those temperatures across our globe.
I love investing in BTU and coal and your analysis is great, but lets not start pretending that people at SeekingAlpha have any kind of science knowledge. If anyone wants to refute global warming with a PhD in a relevant field, I welcome it.
Microsoft/Yahoo: The Reasoning Is Sound [View article]
Microsoft's Earnings were absolutly STELLAR. They proved that they still make an absured (55million a day) amount of money---yet, their online section is the ultimate weakest link. Therefore, taking a very strong company and combining it with a strong company in the field of weakness makes complete sense.
Yes, Google is far superior and if MSFT and YHOO stay seperate it will forever remain that way. We have no idea what could happen if they combine.
Ya ya ya, two wrongs don't make a right. True. But, power + power DOES equal more power.
Blockbuster's Online Focus is Killing its Competitive Advantage [View article]
I think you present a very interesting analysis. However, I think that it must be noted that Blockbuster's brick and cement disadvantage is not going away. If they sold every store today they would be left with a lot of cash but not a strong enough customer base to follow them into the internet world. Blockbuster NEEDS to use its stores to offer an alternative to the, already well-crafted, structure of Netflix.
Also, your suggestion about wireless in Blockbusters cracks me up. Do you really see Blockbuster being the place to hang out and check your e-mail?? Starbucks...okay. Airports....okay. But who is goign to bring their laptop into a blockbuster?? Or, furthermore, who carries their laptop around and finds themselves in a blockbuster?
If blockbuster can deliver their promised doubling of online customers by the end of the year we may see a difference in the Netflix dominated online retailers. I think Blockbuster is losing focus of what really seperates itself from Netflix——VIDEO GAMES. Obviously a smaller market, the Nintendo Wii focuses on small easy games that really lose their excitment after a week. Blockbuster could make a killing on the new systems if they offered games online, which Netflix does not and Blockbuster is slowly realizing they need to do.
Is Apple Beginning Its Long Delayed Descent? [View article]
I think the main issue here is what seeking alpha is about. If its about anybody able to write emotional articles on a stock (and mask it by a single line pointing to the stock price...you technical invester, you), then its a place with no more credibility than yahoo message boards or investors hub. The thing that makes this place better is that people demand an intelligent reason.

I think this is why seeking alpha is often attacked as an illegimate investment source...the sheer number of articles written without proper research, incorrect facts/rumors, and just fueled by emotions is ridicilous. This is a purely emotional response to a personal experience—and, yes, like my Grandfather touted, personal experiences in a company are important, but gimme a break, especially since you ended up with a refund on a clearly faulty product---it happens! You mention the internet rumor (not declaring it a rumor) that the iPhone currently lasts 40 minutes on battery power....ummm, in the rare case that the source even exists, it is clearly a problem that will be fixed before it is released, if you think Apple would release a cell phone of that nature you should re-evaluate your assumptions.
I own Apple long that I bought at 52 last summer. I am considering selling because of the potential to decline but its not for the superficial reasons you listed here. Chances are it will hit 105 before 90 anyways.
