  • Apple: No Innovation, No Problem (For Now) [View article]
iPhone and Android is the same as BMW vs Ford IMHO. A BMW 5-series is great to own and drive but is harder on the wallet. If you're a BMW or MB or Jaguar or Lexus person, you may also like having the "best" user experience and don't mind paying more for it. It's also a great feeling when you pull up to a stop light or a restaurant in the BMW. If you like Ford better and feel that it fits your identify, then you can get the same user experience and enjoyment for less money. Is BMW more innovative than Ford? Maybe, maybe not. Do drivers care about innovation? Why is that so different for CE products?

If you like Android and believe that you get the same performance and functionality then go for it. There is room for both in the market. Unlike the auto industry, we don't reevaluate the relevance of BMW vs Ford over week or quarter because the product life cycles appear to be longer. Every year we go through this same discussion regardless of how much Apple has grown the last year because maybe the lost the magic for whatever reason. If Apple has two blow out quarters that will only prove to the bears how broken the model is because they couldn't have 3 or 4 or 8 blow out quarters in a row. Please remind me which companies had 8 blow out quarters in a row including the last one?

  • Why Banks Shouldn't Trade [View article]
The banks can't make as many bankers extremely wealthy if they don't trade. Why would they give that up without a fight to the death?

  • Apple: Time To Reduce An Overweight Position [View article]
A 16 GB WiFi only model for $199 would be the ultimate stocking stuffer and would take a big bite out of Kindle and Nook demand. Of course there will be a $349 model but if this thing ends up being the killer universal remote and email/book reader sitting on your TV table, how much RAM to you need?

    Should we all place bets?

But if I already have an iPad I don't need a smaller one and can just buy the app. Or I can pick up an older iPad or two on Craigslist.

I was just in our local Apple Store for a Macbook repair and had to push my way through the crowd to get to the Guru table in the back. That was on a Monday at 11am. It was even worse on Sunday afternoon when I dropped it off.
The new iPad Mini will be the Christmas gift of choice for the $200 price range. My wife would love to have it in her purse.

Please sell sell sell AAPL so I can get a great entry point.

  • Are bells ringing? Apple (AAPL) is initiated a Neutral at Nomura. "We see little scope for upside." [View news story]
This is a replay of the past hedge fund moves to short AAPL down to a surprising low (last time is was around $530) so they can buy back in and take a $100 ride up. Now it's up to you to find the value where you hop on board. My chart says someplace around $630.

  • "What we've observed in the employment figures is not recovery, but desperation," writes John Hussman. Of the 1.84M gain in payrolls since the recession's "end," 2.96M jobs have gone to workers 55+, while employment for those under 55 has shrunk by 1.12M. By shorting savers of interest income and promoting repeated booms/busts - but no durable returns - "the Fed has successfully provoked job growth of the obligatory, low-wage variety."  [View news story]
I'm one of the 88mil not in the labor force and happy to be there. There are many of us who are able to get by with less and enjoy what is left of our short lives without pursuing another lousy job. I'm sorry for those who are without the salary to pay for basic needs. Many have to compromise and take a major pay cut just to pay the rent. We're in a transition period that will leave several million without a job for the rest of their lives if they are not willing to take what the job market offers. There is a brighter future but it will come too late for many of us.

  • Apple's Clash: Rising Stock Price Vs. Declining Company Superiority [View article]
What I want to know is what other public companies are in the early stages of following the same management process as Apple in creating a complete ecosystem? Are there similar public companies that have a unique and strong leader instead of committees running the show? That would be an interesting list.
