  • BlackBerry: An Uphill Climb [View article]
I live in a mid-sized Canadian city and I just got back from a little mobile phone stand in the middle of a shopping plaza and was talking to the sales guys. They told me what I have read over and over again: the have had to re-up their inventory 3 times in the past week (fair disclosure - eight BB10s each re-up) because the phones are selling fast. In the manager's words "A lot faster than when the GS3 came out" and that there were people trading in their androids, iphones and even an iPhone 5.

If this is happening everywhere it can't help but bode well for the company's resurgence.

I am LONG BB and CONFIDENT!!!

do you give any attention to the possibility that fuel cell technology may have developed over the last 20 years to become economically viable or are you simply a technical analyst?

My feeling is that people who heed your advice are going to lose their shorts as the world continues to value and turn to clean energy of which HFC will play a vital role in a myriad of applications.

The shareholders must agree to the buyout price and if it only $9 to Fairfax then I have to hope the institutional investors will see the privatization for what it is- a theft.

I disagree. The company has come clean, their cash reserves are mostly in tact and they will have expenses under control going forward. Nothing has changed that this is the best technology/product on the market in the mobile sphere. You may argue and laud ios7 but the basic limitations of the that OS architecture have not changed. Apple and Android are at the end of the rope and will need to rewrite their OS to keep up with the future. BB10 has ushered in that future and the stalwarts are clinging to the past but soon their fingers will slip as BB's technology takes hold.

That is, IF the company can survive long enough which it appears they can given the recent non-cash writedown and slashed workforce.

  • New low-end BB7 models aimed at emerging markets are on the way, says Thorsten Heins. With BB10 hardware carrying relatively steep price tags, BlackBerry's (BBRY) old and new operating systems will be "in coexistence for awhile" in some cost-sensitive regions. Heins adds his ideal BlackBerry lineup involves 6 phones - one touchscreen-only phone and one QWERTY model for 3 different price tiers. (earlier[View news story]
the master plan is taking shape.

as a believer and long shareholder I will be the first to admit that I've had my doubts over the past month but those doubts are getting weaker and faith stronger in this company's turnaround with each passing day.

Really? So their 80,000 BES customers and monopoly on end-to-end security, their 100+ million of BBM users, their stranglehold on the automotive industry with embedded QNX, is worth nothing?

it's reasoning like that I love to see because it means I can accumulate more shares at these firesale prices. :)
