  • SolarCity - Floating On Air [View article]
    "1) SCTY depends on Subsidies
So does every other solar and clean energy company - so presumably we must short every solar, wind and clean energy energy company."

The entire renewable energy sector has a long history of destroying value by earning less than their cost of capital. So yeah, it generally makes more sense to short solar companies than to own them.

  • Greece's Tsipras rejects extension [View news story]
I am all for debt haircuts, or leaving the Euro, if that is what Greece wants. I just think it is absurd to refuse to negotiate with the Troika, and then blame them when Syriza's plans fail and the country's situation deteriorates even further. Because that seems to be the direction they are going in.

  • Rentrak: Disruptive Business Model In Evolving Media World Leads To Significant Upside Potential [View article]
    Obviously.

My point is that if it was a highly profitable business, the cable companies would be competing against RENT and NLSN, and winning. It is not a highly profitable business, so they don't bother.

  • Rentrak: Disruptive Business Model In Evolving Media World Leads To Significant Upside Potential [View article]
Rentrak has earned $0 in profit since this article and the run up has been 100% speculative. Now the market is actually starting to realize that the emperor has no clothes.

  • Why Lions Gate Shouldn't Be Analyzed The Same As Its Competitors [View article]
Nothing you said actually speaks to the value of the company - how much it is worth.

Hunger Games is ending soon and that will clearly be negative for their earnings. An amusement park is just a pipe dream. How are they going to justify a $4B market cap once their biggest blockbuster series winds down?

  • VeriSign And The Salad Oil Scandal [View article]
You seem to be missing the main point of the scandal - it drove AXP stock way down. Meanwhile VRSN is close to the 10 year high.

So maybe Verisign is a bit like American Express, but the current situation is nothing like the Salad Oil Scandal.

  • Greece's Tsipras rejects extension [View news story]
The previous austerity program was successful on multiple fronts. They raised the retirement age. They laid off thousands of useless government workers. They adopted a competent accounting regime. They negotiated a debt haircut.

Also, massive unemployment is actually more sustainable than massively inefficient government employment (if the government is flat broke). With unemployment, the people will eventually find productive jobs.

You obviously don't understand the purpose of QE. It was intended to reduce interest rates and promote employment. Which it has done.

  • SolarCity's Powerful Social Media Arm [View article]
An electric utility's social media presence is the kind of insignificant thing that no one would bother talking about, if it was actually a good, profitable business with good economics. But it's not, so...

  • MBIA victim of huge data leak [View news story]
MBIA were more perpetrators of this leak than victims. There was no "breach", they just published material they obviously shouldn't have.

  • No. The Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Will Not Replace My Laptop [View article]
Microsoft has already lost over a billion dollars on their inept tablet strategy. And they haven't fixed their problems, they're just churning more products out at even higher price points.

But sure, I'm the one who's dumb and doesn't get it.

  • Sears: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly [View article]
"Well, Sears has managed to improve same-store sales."

SSS fell 1%. That is a negative number. That is not improvement.

$2000 for a tablet!? Microsoft's pricing strategy is stuck in the 1980s.

But it's a zero sum game. If you count $2500 for supercharger revenue you have to subtract it from the car margins.

There is no emerging market crisis. EM currencies are weak and equities are very cheap. So what?
