Europe and the United States are mature markets, but the emerging markets of China and India have billions of people just beginning to amass wealth and raise their standards of living. Increased standards of living require increased consumption of energy.

One name that I have heard in the past as a desirable acquisition target is Mark West Enterprises (MWE). MWE is up 2% today.

  • Linn Energy Overpaid For Exxon's California Production [View article]
Linn already has significant assets in Kern County through its purchase of Berry Petroleum. The asset swap with Exxon compliments their existing assets. Unlike Santa Barbara, Kern County is reliant on the oil companies for jobs and tax revenue.

  • Is It Time To Buy Into Dominion? [View article]
The potential value of Dominion Resouces' liquified natural gas export terminal and associated pipelines to the Utica shale are the reasons why the company is valued higher than a typical utility stock. However, this potential value is speculative in nature due to the fact that the gas liquification facility and export terminal likely won't come on line until 2017.

  • Is The Outlook For YPF Growing More Positive? (Part 2) [View article]
"the Argentine government should make a better majority owner of YPF than Repsol"

Really? Maybe for the people of Argentina, but not for investors. As long as the Argentine government continues to set the price of oil at less than fair market value, there will be better places for investors to put their money. You alude to the Argentine government relaxing their price controls on oil. If they had done that before expropriating Respol, maybe Respol would have invested in new oil fields. Capital flows to where the best return can be made and with price controls in place that isn't towards Argentina.

Having lost retirement money on the Argentine government's actions, I can honestly say that I will never have anything to do with this country again.
