  • Computing MV Oil Trust's Q4 Distribution: Solid Returns [View article]
Other oil companies are holding steady despite low oil prices. It's the trusts that are getting killed. Who knows why.

What do you consider poorly run about WTR? (I too have owned since the 1990s.)

Kinder Morgan made what I view as a stupid move today, selling valuable assets (its one-third interest in the primary Canadian oil-sands pipeline) to Spectra in exchange for a relative pittance of dollars. Very worrisome. Not sure I'd be buying Kinder Morgan here.

Lots of bad drops in this stock in the past. This has been a bad one, but it's nothing new and the stock always recovered.

It's doing fine because prices will recover . . . they always do . . . it's inevitable. If you're the type who constantly worries about the ups and downs, you shouldn't be in stocks at all.

  • Southern Company: Wait A Bit Longer Before Jumping Into This Top Utility Play [View article]
SO is currently sitting at its 52-week low. I've found that situation to often be a very good entry point for a good stock like this. Dramatically lower prices might happen, but you could be disappointed if you wait. Even if you buy and prices do go lower, it's hard to quibble with a 52-week low as a rational entry point.

PWE is big risk, despite the positives. The one to buy here as a long-term hold is XOM. That's a no-brainer. You'll make money, period.

Sooner or later, oil prices will rise again (they're virtually guaranteed to do that), and MVO's unit price will rise too. Why not ride it up and down, up and down, and get paid all along?

MVO is an incredible deal (steal?) at these levels. A no-brainer if I ever saw one.

  • Kinder Morgan: Juicy Dividends With Significant Upside Potential [View article]
I think the discount of KMR relative to KMP is largely psychological in origin. Many people prefer cash dividends to share dividends. Some people need the cash to spend; even though the distribution units could be sold to raise the cash, psychologically they're not viewed as the same as cash (and of course, there's a transaction cost to sell shares, and some minor bother). Many people trolling for dividend-earning stocks to invest in see that the listed dividend rate for KMR is zero and get turned off by that without looking any further. It's all pretty silly and dumb, of course, and as a result I view KMR as EXTREMELY attractive due to the discount and many other factors. It's one of my largest positions.

  • 11 Stocks With Yields Over 10% Go Ex-Dividend Next Week [View article]
Articles like this, that simply list financial info. about companies, with no analysis, are entirely worthless---as some other posters have pointed out.

There are FAR too many articles like this cluttering up SeekingAlpha. I wish the administrators would exercise some editorial control.
