...before he was forced to resign as one of the failed leaders who didn't see the sub-prime etc crisis.

Dave, your argument is with your buddies who are or were shouting the opposite.

That JP can't be trusted because he'll gain financially from spreading the word about Tesla's finances.

You can't have it both ways after discovering that he is not in fact short Tesla stock.

Julian, I did not want to mention the repeated confusion of principals and principles. Terribly impolite.

Then you got Bart84 engaging in it too and now even John.

Stilldazed re your concern to "protect proprietary information".

Prop info is hard enough to protect at home. Consider all the many leakage paths available.

Can you name a single industry of interest that has not been hacked? Have you noticed that even the once-common pretense of being hack-proof has been dropped by large organizations of high repute?

    Abroad? Forget it.

Re Tesla described above as "the first new successfull American car company in generations".

Leaving aside the question of ultimate success after losses expected in future quarters, subsidies, etc...

Is "American" really a reason you like Tesla?

Which major parts of the Tesla are made in “America”?

The battery pack made of NON-American batteries?
The liner that's attached to the hood? Not impressive.

Tesla seems quite shy about the "American" content of its car.

    Dr. MRTTF --

Good catch on Julian Cox's mistake.

It was an easy mistake to make but the fact is that Julian made it and you caught it. Julian being a self-styled "expert" it is harder to be charitable about it.

    Re Dave_M:
Is it any wonder that US aerospace has been hurting if advised (allegedly) by people that end their comments with
    "just saying"
    or
    "wow"
    rather than addressing issues?

    Just saying. :-)

We should now expect sales to go up.

The good news is explained by PaulGraham ( .com, entrepeneur and now funder at ycombinator.com): Fundraising kills productivity.

"Raising money is terribly distracting. You're lucky if your productivity is a third of what it was before. And it can last for months.

I didn't understand (or rather, remember) precisely why raising money was so distracting till earlier this year. I'd noticed that startups we funded would usually grind to a halt when they switched to raising money, but I didn't remember exactly why till YC raised money itself. We had a comparatively easy time of it; the first people I asked said yes; but it took months to work out the details, and during that time I got hardly any real work done. Why? Because I thought about it all the time. “

jcrjg, do not flatter yourself that you (and a few others who are tempted to become troll-petters whenever the stock sags) are the only ones who want to hear multiple points of view.

"Their first failure with the NS 999 did a huge amount of damage and was an incredible embarrassment."

True, and to clarify for non-experts:
The embarrassment and damage in the quotation was not related to Axion. Norfolk Southern was using another company's batteries at that time.

    Julian:
    You wrote
" the vent will open and direct waste heat into a cooling conduit"

The real motivation of vents in 18650's is not "waste heat". It is gas pressure relief. Like in any other battery.

The vent "may have little effect on the thermal aspects of a thermal runaway". This quotation is from the patent.

    weaponzero,

Extremes are not the only possibilities.

Regarding your attack on JP's picturesque reference to a liquid stream on an electric fence, your statements

"will do absolutely nothing" and "be electrocuted".

disregard all the awkward possibilities in between.
