Dubai: The Economically Impossible Dream Is Over [View article]
Much like rest of the middle east, Dubai was a place where residents could not own a property unless they were natural born Arabs.
This changed a few years ago. As a result, the significant percentage of foreign born residents could now be full fledged property owners, major contributor to the real estate speculative bubble.
I can't agree more with Andyn. What was PriceWaterhouse doing ? Was PriceWaterhouse in on the corruption or just plain incompetent ? Who are the other clients of PWC ?
Corruption is pretty rampant in India and I think this may be just the begining.
Airvana: An Opportunity in Femtocells [View article]
Femtocell has a market. however don't have high expectations.
I agree, unless this is given out for free adding one more device to a household, especially when wifi is in place and smartphones have wifi functionality, is not going to be a top priority to many customers. To me as a consumer why would I want more radiation on top of every other device in the house ?
Femto cell markets are going to be countries where cell coverage is not built up, this also means very competitive price with low margins and shopping malls, dense areas.
In my opinion, the marketing approach for it has to change. One way to market femto cell is to combine the femtocell functionality with settop boxes. Companies like comcast can deliver cable and wireless services, using MVNO model, and compete with other wireless providers.
Satyam Has Muted Impact on Indian Equities ... So Far [View article]
"It remains to be seen what sort of long-term fallout the Satyam fraud will have on Indian equities, but so far the reaction has to be considered a relatively muted one"
Lack of faith in auditors leads me to wonder if this is just the begining. Will be interesting to find which other companies employs PWC as auditors.

So I'm a bit ignorant here, I'm trying to analyze what are the ripple effects of feds pumping in Billions of dollar into the economy ? Upside is that banks have access to short term credit in return for AAA mortgage . But what is/are the downside ?

I had the opportunity to work as a vendor with Tata Telecom in India last year. One of the most promising aspect I noticed was the core value of Ethics within the company. Stark difference between other vendors where the ethical line most of the time is a blur.
India's Exploding Real Estate Market: Shades of the Florida Condo Bubble [View article]
I agree 100% with Anshu on this. I was in India last year and real estate prices in everywhere has totally been inflated. My question is if there is a way to short the real estate market being an NRI ?
India's Exploding Real Estate Market: Shades of the Florida Condo Bubble [View article]
I concur 100% with Anshu that real estate pricing doesn't make sense at all. Having never see a real estate downturn in India doesn't mean that it will not occur. My question is if anyone knows of a way for an NRI to short the real estate market in India ?
Asif, I was in India last year around this time and spent 2 months around the country. I agree with your assessment on hotels, costing upward of $300-$400. However, I would have to argue that this is a period of weddings is India. Apart from Bangalore, where there is a shortage of hotels I don't think any other big city in India would warrant a increase of hotel rates as I saw. In general prices are inflated and I would think there would be a correction and would be cautious !!
