  • Why Apple's China Mobile Launch Was A Flop [View article]
Nice photos. That's about it. Although I'll certainly admit that Netflix has been a much better bet since....well....yeste...

Poor results but not unexpected. Still like FCX for the long term, but not attractive for any lesser period.

Great fund, Bret. I have owned it for a long time. My favorite Asian fund, by far.

  • Contrarian View: Is Now A Good Time To Buy Gold? [View article]
The only person, bank, analyst, entity, molecule, etc. that I listen to regarding gold is JPM. If JP Morgan is long on gold, I am long on gold. All the rest is just noise.

  • Builders Prepare For A Blowout Spring Selling Season [View article]
Sorry, John, but I see the opposite occurring. The real estate market in most of the country is not nearly as positive as your article suggests. Except in the few hot markets, housing starts are not recovering to any large extent. Many unfinished developments exist, and inventory of existing homes for sale is adequate. My sources: (1) real estate agents who have their pulse on the market daily; (2) two construction superintendents; and (3) my own two eyes.

Sure, the builders will pick-up some steam simply because they have been in the doldrums for the past half-decade, but they have a long way to go to come close to catching-up to where they were pre-2008.

  • Apple At $525 A Share Would Be A Gift [View article]
I agree with you, Bret, regarding the margins and NTT. Both are key for this quarter. However, we know that ws doesn't think logically. It would not shock me if ws fixates on the China numbers and brushes aside the margins and NTT (despite the fact that ws has been harping for the past year on purported margin concerns).

This stock is easy for the pros to game and treacherous for the retail investor to do anything other than buy and hold.

  • Apple iPhone goes on sales at China Mobile [View news story]
If Apple's Q2 guidance is not completely breathtaking (whatever that means in the eyes of the street), then it's going below $500 until a new product category is introduced. Would be a good opportunity to pick up shares in the $480-$500 range and hold for a long-term gain.

I don't think that good Q1 results will be enough to pump the stock up much beyond where it is today. The guidance is critically important and will be the only fact that the market considers to be relevant.

Correct, cshoxie. I'm an Apple bull, and it's my largest holding, but there are many other opportunities elsewhere in this market. Apple is not a bad bet, but it is simply too constrained by the options to have the sort of runs that we've seen in dozens of other tech stocks.

Low short interest + options play and pinball = Limited ability to predict or anticipate a breakout.

Almost all of the action is options-related unstopabull. I see nothing to indicate this trend will reverse in the near future. That is what will keep Apple range-bound for the foreseeable future. Apple is not an easy stock (unless you're a market maker or options guru, in which case, it's very easy to play).

  • Apple Remains A Good Short [View article]
Apple's been a comparatively poor "investment" for the past two years, J. It's my largest position by far, and I am holding for the longer-term, but I can certainly understand Beefy's concern.

I would not worry about the $561 entry point, Beefy. In a year or two, that will likely be a gift, and you'll smile at it. However, as I noted, be prepared for the market makers to guide it to $515 before it rises again. Unless massive unforeseen good news is released early next week, the mms will remain in control until at least next Friday. Based on Apple's standard daily drop of >0.5%, the $515 figure is a cakewalk for the mms.

Correct, Humble Eagles. This stock is unpredictable.

I am not sure that the actual earnings numbers will matter much to WS. It's all about the amorphous concept of "growth" and, for Apple, margin improvement. For the mo-mos and other high fliers, margins are irrelevant, but for Apple, WS has decided they matter.

Honestly, whenever Tim Cook opens his mouth about the "exciting" products in the pipeline, the stock seems to drop . Probably better for him to stay silent and let the numbers speak for themselves.

Beefy, it probably ends up at $515, where the market makers want for January options expiration. Apple is my largest holding (long), so I would not short Apple, but the sharp options players I know are making a ton of money at the moment. That tells me that it's going lower.

This is a very realistic prediction flyer. I don't see it lower than the $515 Jan. OPEX pin next week, but it certainly could fall below $495. After er, I think it's going much higher, but the bounce will likely be sold in massive volume. Then, rinse and repeat.

No. Floor is much lower. Dividend is irrelevant here.
