  • Russia may ban car imports if West imposes new sanctions [View news story]
    Russia GAS to Europe is existential threat. It is a no-go area and Russia have been supplying gas to Europe even during the worst of cold wars. Any gas game here could immediately turn global economy into recession worse than 2007/8. Everyone understands this except some "fools" in power in some countries.

    Economic sanction to such country as Russia if not for PR stunt value is the stupidest decision ever. Any sanction not backed by UN and other economies will never work. Iran "appear" to have worked because of cooperation of China and Russia though there is essentially nothing to show it worked. Russia is the largest country on earth and the richest endowed. It is also a civilized with as high IQ. So to think that economic sanctions on Russia could force them quickly surrender in Ukraine and allow NATO to station there is the most foolish foreign policy decision ever. Remember without Russian cooperation USA will not be able to successfully engage in many of these external military adventures. Before bombing or droning any country Russia must assure that no anti-aircraft system exists. That was true in Iraq, Libya..but was not in Syria. Russia refused to supply Iran with SAM 300/400 just for Israel to maintain that military edge. In return recently Israel never condemned or voted for the condemnation of Russian annexation of Crimea.

    The Russia-phobia in our society could push them towards East and South. These people constitute over 70% of the world population and eventually control the power. We need Russia to help contain the East/South instead of the opposite. Russia is and never being US enemy.

    Unfortunately stock market is not a debating society. It will justly deliver a judgement in time. Nothing that I said or said will ever change the course of the market unfortunately..so we save our energy and wait for the market. You are short and I am long. We shall see in court lol

    @Brad

    Thanks for your detailed understanding of investing. Like I said earlier I refrain from plunging myself into bazaars of words of language semantics when it comes to the market. Because it is a simple process in my own opinion.

    Now are how I view it:

    1. Investment as any business is enticed by buying at a discount and selling at a premium by putting ones capital at risk within a timeframe or horizon and/or risk versus reward.

    2. Investment is not same as gambling because gambling is generally a binary event where risk to reward equation impressive but success rate is less than 0.000000%. It is also a zero-sum game whereas investing is a zon-zero sum. Gambling models are generally non-deterministic just like a Markov Chain transition state which is simply not true in investing.

    3. Investing and Speculation are one and same. Some people believe that those that invest in the short term are speculators while those on the long haul are investing. That is simply nonsense.

    4. Investors take position in assets based on their perception of price versus value. Value and price are never same. Value leads price and the auction process of price continue to chase value. When they are far apart from each other you could have a strong trend as they struggle to revert to mean. When they are so close you see a ranging market.

    5. Time is therefore of essence. You must time your entry and exit to make it to the tops. We dont have to invest as millipedes. That is why you often hear of smartmoney versus dumb money.

    6. Investing is the business of management of risks --both upside and downside risks. You write cover against your underlying positions all in attempt to manage your risks. So just understand what you are doing.

    7. Finally investing in an asset is not same as marriage ( for better for worse). It is closer to dating. You gotta date stocks you dont marry them. Hey but you can have a date same date for many years..but that not the issue. The issue is that the exit barrier to dating is far lower than marriage.

    On KORS. @QTR wrote this piece why he likes the stock. I simply commented that I liked it too and long. I am not in the business of gambling on binary event of earnings. My expectation is to sell my position in KORS near $100 market from this area. I could be wrong but I also know when to take my losses. But behaviour of shenanigans during earnings have never been part of my investment considerations.

    Because you said that investing is not akin to making a bet. This assertion is simply beyond logic. It implies that your opinion of the future is a certainty and therefore there are no risks in the market. As you may know ..ordinarily you do not take any risks if you are not betting..when it is "given". You take and manage risks when you are making a bet no matter the structure. And everyone knows we are not in the business of "given" in the financial market and business in general

  • Report: Russia may ban trans-Siberian flights for EU airlines [View news story]
    Obama says "Russia does not make anything; immigrants are not rushing to Russia "! I hope this is not the way his mind actually works or the way he sees things. If that is true and not a joke then we are all in trouble ! He did not tell us what USA or UK actually makes that immigrants are chasing. But wait..China makes everything. Japan even makes most things as well at higher level ..But immigrants are neither rushing to China or Japan?

    On sanctions that is the dumbest bet ever by EU. It opens Russia up to other opportunities. It makes USA/EU seen as bully to the rest of the world and everyone would be careful of investment just in case you happen to disagree politically along the way. Economic sanction should ever be used as a last resort tool and must be global to work. Russia is the largest country on earth with the richest natural resources populated by people with one of the world highest IQ. Maybe they dont make iphones but they lead in space and military aeronautics.

    I think there is still time for you to truly learn. Maybe then you will come to full understanding. In one to two months time or even less you should look at yourself in the mirror in regard to KORS and perhaps learn more.

    "While there may be a dead cat bounce, the best days of this company are now behind it for the foreseeable future."

    Investors/traders dont make such statements as above. Market does not work that way.

    @Miguel

    My personal assessment of what happened today is this: When they numbers came out the stock rose by 3% and somehow along the way it jumped by 12% in a second. Perhaps probably a fat finger or so caused that disorderly move to correct. As a trader I am not surprised that the price had to get to low $77 due to this kinda of action. The idea is that this is a technical move instead of anything about the earning. It happens ..but as you said the fundamentals trumps in the end. A sharp mind looks for such opportunities. Tomorrow it could get 5~6% and another analyst would come out to lecture us again on wrong we have been today.. lol

    If the initial move of 3/5% held you would have seen this selling. If it jumped to 12% when the earning was announced it could have held. There was clearly a confusion and the usual sell and ask questions later (HFT) takes over.
