  • Sell Bank Of America Ahead Of Earnings To Avoid Further Losses [View article]
Why sell now after all these years? It just doesn't make sense to me. Most major stock took a hit when BAC did. The government has had its foot on the neck of BAC ever since, and is just now letting it up. People often sell when they should buy and buy when they should sell. Stay the course, I say.

  • Prospect Capital Has Become Absurdly Cheap [View article]
Not really, if you continually do nothing you eventually lose. There is an element of risk in every stock.

  • Prospect Capital Has Become Absurdly Cheap [View article]
Boy, this company seems to embody the old "tar baby" story. As a stock holder I find it very confusing...and I guess this must be affecting the share prices.

I keep my PSEC in an IRA account in which I have been reinvesting all dividends. At a future moment I will be required to take back 10% in earnings and pay tax on it. Until that time the more I can invest in PSEC at a discounted rate the better off I am in the long run.

That is, assuming PSEC will still be around and paying over 11% in dividends to me.

I understand why folks don't like a sneaky overpaid management team. But, I am handing out clothespins. Unless this thing tanks, and that seems quite unlikely, it could stay at the current asset value for a long time and it wouldn't bother me.

I am suspicious of the spin-offs however. This could be a way for management to bleed off assets and protect their own incomes from future catastrophe. So I will be interested in how these are structured.

Alfonzo, I have been following you for some time now, and your advise has been sound. Much of the rhetoric on the distrusted management of this company reminds me of the whining the accompanies the GE stock holders. Do you think that, in the long run the management at PSEC may be looking for a slick way to skin this cat? Or would it be prudent to take some of the fat dividend that is paid out over time and diversify holdings in a more benign environment?

  • Take Profits In Pfizer Stock Ahead Of First-Quarter Earnings [View article]
I agree, chasing stocks up and down is a fools bet. If it does drop I will accumulate further and look more long term. If one wanted to, they could buy some options to limit downside risk, but with a large well managed company like PFE unless it looks like there is going to be a major downturn in the economy, just ride the waves.

  • I Am Holding My General Electric Shares And Intend To Add To The Position [View article]
It has been a hated stock for a long time. There seems to be many ghouls and scarecrows as owners.

  • General Electric: Sale Of GE Capital Real Estate Assets And $50 Billion Share Repurchase Plan Open A Buying Opportunity [View article]
Helpful information for a long time share holder in GE. But what now? How should a shareholder handle the Synchrony spin off?. It looks like we will get a chance to participate, but will we be getting any special opportunity or will we just be treated like any other buyer in the market? What are the benefits on being a long suffering stock owner?

  • Tax-Minimizing Trades And Layoffs Rock Bank Of America [View article]
You have it backwards Don! This bank bailed out the economy and the federal government and has paid the price ever since. The "loan" was paid back in full and the government has bilked this bank out by fining it for millions when it was the government that precipitated the bail out. Do you remember the melt down? Now you should know that I happen to think that most bankers are crooks - but there our crooks. It looks like you must have an unabibding belief that the politicians will save us from the banks. Dream on.

I seek dividends for the same reasons, but I have a little problem with this. I think you need to buy good quality, improving value stock to protect you basis, and a number of these guys - Time Warner, Newell Rubbermaid, just don't measure up.
